Historia
American women—American wives—have been mostly minor characters in the literature of the Vietnam War, but in Absolution they take center stage. Tricia is a shy newlywed, married to a rising attorney on loan to navy intelligence. Charlene is a practiced corporate spouse and mother of three, a beauty and a bully. In Saigon in 1963, the two women form a wary alliance as they balance the era’s mandate to be “helpmeets” to their ambitious husbands with their own, inchoate impulse to “do good” for the people of Vietnam.

Okay story. A bit of a rant at times. Well written but also confusing too.

I was fully engrossed but Frankie became tiresome. I also expected Jamie to show up at some point. Enjoyed the historical aspects of this novel. I would recommend

Historia
Set in the mountains of southern Appalachia, Demon Copperhead is the story of a boy born to a teenaged single mother in a single-wide trailer, with no assets beyond his dead father’s good looks and copper-colored hair, a caustic wit, and a fierce talent for survival. Relayed in his own unsparing voice, Demon braves the modern perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses.

It of a downer but really good
Revisado: 07-06-23
This book was a bit of a downer, but very enjoyable. Damon was accountable for some of the bad situations that unfolded, he was not a total victim too bad he didn’t start getting his life together until chapter 62 I was getting depressed.

Sy Montgomery's popular 2011 Orion magazine piece, "Deep Intellect", about her friendship with a sensitive, sweet-natured octopus named Athena and the grief she felt at her death, went viral, indicating the widespread fascination with these mysterious, almost alien-like creatures. Since then Sy has practiced true immersion journalism, from New England aquarium tanks to the reefs of French Polynesia and the Gulf of Mexico, pursuing these wild, solitary shape-shifters.

Boring
Revisado: 12-13-22
We read this book for our book club. It was a long collection of octopuses antidotes, I felt I was listening to her journaling. All animals are intelligent and worthy, but not necessarily worthy of a novel. This would’ve been better presented as a magazine feature, not my cup of tea.

Listened to this book for book club. I thought we would to learn about alternative medicine and traditional Chinese medicine but I was incorrect. This book is not based on any science, it is the author's LECTURES on her perceived spiritual gifts with non-compelling examples. She briefly touched on the five elements and then would wonder off to her experiences which were unconvincing. Sorry I wasted an audible credit. Best thing about this book was that it was short.
