Well written, incredibly well researched. I listen to lots of thriller series…this one is right up there with the best of them.

How anyone could write a review without marveling at the sheer intelligence of the writing, the insights, the imagery, the ongoing character growth and development, and just the amount of work that goes into this and all X books is beyond me.
The writing, and of course Scott Brick’s narration, are at such high levels I put Orphan X at the top of the many series I love and listen to…and this book in particular was exceptional.

Entertaining, but….
Revisado: 12-20-23
I enjoy legal thriller series and this one does have some appeal. Interesting plot, but the dialogue/narration comes across as a bit stiff and unnatural. The constant use of first names of characters, especially during the trials, It gives it a juvenile feel. Main character is a little too plastic.
All that said, I keep listening and will probably listen to future books.

All of the books in the series thus far have been excellent, but this one took it up several notches in my opinion. Really top level writing, and Ray Porter makes it even better.

Listened to them all...this one was excellent. Best in terms of courtroom drama and a matured Jake.
New narrator was excellent (sans some bad pronunciations of South Florida cities and other things) but overall very good.
I truly hope there is more Jake to come.

I can't imagine enjoying it more
Revisado: 02-14-20
Not only was this my favorite in the series (and that alone is a high bar), but it was one of my favorite books ever! I am huge listener/reader of series by well respected authors...this one is every good as any of them. Hurwitz does an amazing job with descriptions, detail, depth, character development, emotions...everything....I can't imagine it being any better. And of course, Scott Brick is the perfect narrator for the series.
Can't wait to see how he follows this one up.

Listened with a smile for most of the book
Revisado: 11-30-18
I have listened to hundreds of books and this is my very first time writing a review. That said, I find it very annoying when people make their review into a recap of the storyline...we have either read the book already, or we are contemplating reading it...so your recap with spoilers is pointless and self-indulgent.
With that out of the way...I read probably somewhere around the first 15 Reacher books on a Kindle before I became an Audible addict and started listening to books. I am clearly in the minority here when I say I was not really a fan of the Dick Hill Reacher. After having an image of the character in my mind, I thought Hill sounded too old, and he made Reacher feel completely humorless and even flat. I was actually a little surprised when I read how his Reacher was so beloved here.
All that said, I am a Scott Brick fan. Loved his John Corey book series readings, Orphan X, all the Brad Meltzer books, etc. Everything he did comes to life for me. And his Reacher just worked for me. Add to that that this book brought back lots of the old school Reacher ingredients, and I felt like the series had come back to life for me.
Sure there were some issues with the characters being a little shallow and the plotline missed in places....but all in all it was a really fun listen for me and left me anxious for the next one.
