Great story. Not my favorite narrator. Can't wait to see it on the big screen.

Historia
Last summer, The New Yorker published chef Anthony Bourdain's shocking, "Don't Eat Before Reading This." Now, the author uses the same "take-no-prisoners" attitude in his deliciously funny and shockingly delectable audiobook, sure to delight gourmands and philistines alike.

Very disappointing narration
Revisado: 05-13-21
First off, I will say I read this book years ago and enjoyed it very much. As a long haul truck driver I listen to a lot of books, most of the time opting for stuff I haven't read before. But every now and then I choose something I've read before and enjoy it all over again. Sadly, this was not the case with Kitchen Confidential. I was very disappointed in Anthony Bourdain's reading of this book, almost as if he had nothing to do with the stories and very much as if he had something else more important to do. Dull and hurried. Not at all what I hoped for or expected.

Historia
These Desired Things is a stimulating, philosophical offering; a tour de force in creative writing. Praised in review as "imagery and literature at its finest", defining this book's genre seems largely superfluous - for its immersive, lyrical text is part fiction, part memoir, part autobiography. The chapters are presented as a collection of 11 short stories: all of them varying in their individual plots, their settings and their style, yet all of them remain essential elements of the whole; for running through each is a series of subtle, uniting threads.

Very enjoyable book

I've listened to a few Matchett books and knew going in this one was going to be a little different. And it is. Beautifully written. So, if you're looking for more of the same, it isn't that. But still very much worth the time. Quite nice.

Historia
In the first of three essays included in this audiobook, Bill Bryson decides to move his wife and kids back to his homeland, the United States, after nearly two decades in Britain. But not before taking one last trip around Britain, a sort of valedictory tour of the green and kindly island that had so long been his home. The result is a hilarious social commentary.

Why is he whispering?
Revisado: 01-11-21
I would probably give the stories a higher rating but I cannot hear them. Well, I can hear the narrator but have to strain to understand what he's saying. Very disappointed in this selection.

Decent stories read horribly
Revisado: 12-14-20
When I saw the narrator was named Carnegie I had hopes this book wobe read by someone familiar with Indy. It is not. I could barely finish with the embarrassing mispronounced names and erratic pace. Economaki I'll let pass, but Rahal, Kanaan, Franchetti, and Wheldon? Seriously?
And to be honest, the stories aren't that great either.
