Overall it was pretty good and informative, however at times I felt it went into too much detail into some other topics that didn't fit with the rest of the book

Don't get me wrong, it wasn't the narrator's accent or even his condescending attitude that ruined it for me. I could have suffered through that. It was his horrendous gasping for air, I don't know what was wrong with this man when he recorded this, that he seemed out of breath! Had he just run a marathon? Does he suffer with severe asthma? Whatever it might be, I could not ignore it. No matter how great the story is, I could not listen to him gasping in my ear, which is why I listened mainly with a speaker rather than an earbud (It helped a bit). Still, he had a nasal quality to his voice, which leads me to conclude that this man had a cold at the time he recorded this (What a trooper!).

Aside from the horrid narration by a sick man, the story was rather good. At least the parts I understood, I have since actually purchased a kindle copy to read on my own. I definitely encourage you to read the unabridged book, and if you don't care to have a man with a cold read to you, then listen to this audiobook. I however am glad that I didn't pay for this book and listened to it through the new Plus Catalog.

All in all, I recommend the book if you don't mind the mentioned narration problems I described. And if that does bother you, the story is amazing and I definitely recommend that you try to read this book or find a different unabridged audiobook.

A Lovely Reading of a Classic

First thing to note, this book is translated in old English, as such I do not recommend this specific translation of the Divine Comedy if you are not acquainted with old English. If you can however read the true text of anything as old as Shakespeare’s work with absolute ease, then this translation is a beautiful and lyrical one which is easy to follow. I very much enjoy Longfellow’s way with words, even without rhyming the words, he created a very lyrical and beautiful rhythm for the text.

Secondly, I am not sure about the Google app for Audible, however I know that the app on my Fire 7 tablet botched the organization of the chapters. If you do however have an IOS device, the parts are beautifully separated and easy to scroll through to skip the hour long biography and the synopsis of each canto. And you will easily be able to locate the beginning of Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso. If you solely use the app on your Fire tablet, I wouldn’t recommend purchasing this edition since you’ll be forced to listen to everything because nothing is organized.

The Narrator was great. I found his voice to be very intense at parts where they need be then soft at others. He truly gets into the parts where he sounds in distress as you’d expect Dante to be at seeing certain things. Griffin very much created a perfect flow for the poem, making it feel like a song being spoken. His voice was powerful throughout the text and I found it pleasing to my ears.

Personally, I found this audiobook enjoyable. I do however recommend that you read this poem before listening or as you listen. Reason being that for most it is hard to follow the poem if you do not know old English too well. I have been reading classic literature since I was 8 years old so to me this is simple to understand now that I am 20, however for most people they have not been so inclined to read the classics out of their own desire for most of their lives as I have. So I do know that some will and have had difficulty with the language. So if you have read little to no old language texts, I suggest finding another translation. If you are like me and are well versed in Old English then I would recommend this audiobook wholeheartedly!

An interesting version of Dracula

I skipped the whole introduction to the book, an entire 11 chapters of preface is not enjoyable to me, I like getting straight to the story, so this somewhat hindered my interest in the book as a whole. Now the ending is anticlimactic, however the beginning of the story is great, I simply felt disappointed by the ending that hardly felt like a conclusion. This is an interesting story nonetheless and just the beginning is a worthy thing to listen to.

I would not necessarily recommend this book. Unless the prospect of hearing a different side of the classic tale is worth your time. I found parts of this book, mainly the rewrite on Jonathan/Thomas Harker’s journal. Had that been merged with the English version’s ending, it would have been a perfect story. However all the other characters stories aren’t told in their journals or the like, it is told in most part in third person. And I definitely prefer the journal/letter formula in the English Dracula. Still a good listen if you want to learn a generally new plot of Dracula.

Not Original Text, 1831 Edition (Beware Students)

The performance was alright, however the voice for the monster's story was not good, it did not at all match the description given throughout the book. Now had the narrator given a more hoarse and aggressive voice for that part I'd give the five stars for performance, however he did not. One should at least try to sound like the characters especially when you are given a complete description of how they sound.

Something important that should be noted (especially for students) is the edition. This version is the censored version from 1831, not the original 1818 version. If you are reading this for school, I advise you to confirm which edition your teacher has asked you to read. As there is a different amount of chapters, and a couple of facts that are changed. One main change is Elizabeth's origin story as well as other minute details. A longer background on Frankenstein's family which I find a bore. The pacing is better in the 1818 edition in my opinion since all of his childhood and family history is covered in a brief chapter one. In this version the original chapter 1 is extended and separated into two chapters.

If this had been the original text I would have enjoyed it much more, however the 1831 edition is not that great because I am given too much background on Frankenstein that I care not to know. I prefer the pacing and raw storytelling of the original edition from 1818. I recommend the Amazon Classics edition that you can borrow from Prime reading and Kindle Unlimited if you wish to hear/read the original 1818 edition. Or if your teacher wants you to read the 1818 edition, ask them, don't simply assume this is the one you're supposed to read for school.

In conclusion, if you did not enjoy the pacing or some things in the story of this audio book, I recommend you listen to the original before tossing this book as trash not worth reading. I have seen some reviews complain of the unnecessary beginning chapters and can assure those people that the 1818 edition is definitely better in that regard. And had this been the original text I'd have better enjoyed it, and had the voice for the monster been better suited for the character I'd give this five stars.
