Did Not Finish - Super Annoying
Revisado: 09-26-24
Stock modern overly-emotional irrational damaged overthinking self-isolated protagonist. Narrator sounded like a blender left on high with three peanuts and 2 teaspoons of water in the pitcher. Quit after first few chapters. Nothing of literary interest here.

Performance out of this world!
Revisado: 04-30-24
So funny, so charming, such incredible vim!
I'm sure the book is hilarious read in print, but the narrator's audio interpretation lifted this to the stars! So much energy and true grasp of the "ping-pong" smart dialogue. Highly recommend!

Really Great Story!
Revisado: 04-29-24
This was so well written, detailed, insightful, wide-spanning on trade knowledge, and also touching on so many themes in psychology. Thoroughly enjoyed the 70s-era setting; it was such a comforting throwback. The narrator had an odd metallic voice that took some getting used to, but it obvious he took the true meaning of the author's words and emotions to heart when performing. That was nice.

not really an etiquette book
Revisado: 04-19-24
I was looking forward to a densely-packed rundown of small graces and their origins. This was more of a lengthy "me" tale with a side of How To Not Be Anxious In Social Situations. It worked off the assumption that everyone is awkward and anxious to begin with, and that made it very boring.

I was wary of getting into a very much more technical book, but this was a pleasing array of job roles, back stories, ethics, sociology, and psychology than I thought! The time setting was so refreshing. Loved it!

They say Paris is always a good idea.... You know what I say? Paris would be a much better idea if I spoke the dang language. I can't even board the metro to visit the Louvre without ending up at the Moulin Rouge, and let's not even mention how I'll ever make it through a day at my new office. Fortunately my company hooks me up with my own personal translator. Ooh la la. Or should I say bloody hell? Because he's charming, witty, and British, and he brings the city to life for me.

I can't stop cringing
Revisado: 01-26-24
Everything about this book is shallow, neurotic, unrealistic, and unsophisticated: so very un-Parisian. These characters seem to be stuck in their early teenage years with no sense of subtlety or actual adult connection. I love Richard Armitage's voice but my heart kind of wept for him hearing this drivel. (Was he coerced or extorted to do this book?)
The voice/accent/dialogue of Joy's character was so unpleasant, crass, and immature. Will not be finishing this title.

Pretty cookie cutter story
Revisado: 11-28-23
This book was part of a growing amoeba of jump-around character chapter fiction complete with immature damaged women, a tortured narrative, strained relationships, and a general predictable plot with obligatory 2 dimensional hot guy(s). The only thing missing from this one was the usual dude called Aidan. Sometimes I feel like AI is writing these books and generating author names. Pretty disappointing and unrealistic. Narrator had a pleasant voice so that's a positive.

"So I thought I might take up paragliding. You know, buy one on eBay and just jump off the cliff one morning." Emily Willows is middle-aged, widowed, wealthy, and bored. When she makes those flippant remarks to her son over coffee one Friday, she has no inkling that within a few hours she will be facing the most terrifying situation of her life.

Huh??
Revisado: 09-27-23
This story seemed half-baked the whole way through. The back story never quite filled in. Big "Huh?" factor throughout. Characters were half-baked at best: predictable tropes with predictable strengths and weaknesses. Predictable ending. The narrator sounded flat/vapid/quasi-AI and completely missed whatever juice there was in the action scenes. It was a tough listen; any longer and I probably would have dropped it without finishing.

Terrible
Revisado: 09-26-23
Weak, neurotic, illogical woman character with exhausting mental circling and crushing naivete. I truly wish authors would quit this overdone trope. Nobody wants to read or listen to this blabber. It is so demeaning to women.
So she's supposed to be a mental health professional but has zero mental discipline, and the first time she sounds jazzed in HOURS is when she realizes she's lost a few pounds from grieving? Her "best friends" make a guest appearance and then....?
Narrator had a grossly fake (sometimes) Southern accent and all the men sounded like they were stoned. Only got a few hours into it before I couldn't take it anymore. Glad I put myself out of my misery, quit, and looked up the rest of the plot online. Yuck.

Loved it!
Revisado: 09-11-23
Light read and it just charmed me. I loved Molly. The end was sort of out of character, and it would have been more pleasant to have the setting in a named city with more sensory details, but I enjoyed the story very much. Definitely recommend.
