loved deeply
Revisado: 11-12-24
I started back to school in my 30s over 8 yrs ago and took a long time to finish. When i started back, i was inspired by listening to Luke and Kevin tell me the fantastic story of Atticus and co. go kill Thor (my fave book of Iron Druid). Or ya know, somewhere in my listening binge of the series up to that point. I wanted to help, in my own non-magical way. My family and their future needed someone to help the environment. I got my degree and am now working in a lab performing tests for my state (mostly) water treatment facilities. I'm glad both series have wrapped up so wonderfully for everyone. Happy endings and love for Laurnog (sp), among the many other absolutely brillant cast of characters through it.
Thanks Kevin and Luke!!!

Historia
Many Indigenous people believe that one should never whistle at night. This belief takes many forms: for instance, Native Hawaiians believe it summons the Hukai’po, the spirits of ancient warriors, and Native Mexicans say it calls Lechuza, a witch that can transform into an owl. But what all these legends hold in common is the certainty that whistling at night can cause evil spirits to appear—and even follow you home. These shiver-inducing tales introduce listeners to ghosts, curses, hauntings, monstrous creatures, complex family legacies, desperate deeds, and chilling acts of revenge.

These stories were all really interesting. A few times i had to put the book away because of danger to children and csa Had to skip "sunday", wish i knew it was in here. Honestly wouldnt have bought it despite the well done horror. I dont like surprise csa and the begging in the beginning of the story, i cant get out of my mind as a survivor myself. I appreciate compassionate trigger warnings.

Historia
The beloved King Ik is dead, and there was barely time to check his pulse before the royal throne was supporting the suspiciously shapely backside of an impostor pretending to be Ik's beautiful, long-lost daughter. With the land's heroic hunks busy drooling all over themselves, there's only one man left who can save the kingdom of Jenair. His name is Dungar Loloth, a rural blacksmith turned innkeeper, a surly hermit, and an all-around nobody oozing toward middle age, compensating for a lack of height, looks, charm, and tact with guts and an attitude.

Disappointing
Revisado: 05-21-22
I love a silly story and this was great fun.... for a while. I hadn't read the reviews before listening to the book. But when they mention the women-hating, it's legit. I feel it would be impossible for the author to write a woman who is more than a one-dimensional idea. Even after the women-only village, which has far too many issues including making fun of rape, the women in the story are never redeemed. I wish this was all a growing point for the author to see their problem, but I doubt it. I loved Jiminy and the fighting goat! I think the MC was mostly fun to follow through his adventures. It's just a massive disappointment the author can't write about women without devolving into misogyny. I would have been thrilled to continue following this author's career otherwise.

I had to put the book down from the start with gretch's boss. Horribly annoying, but when I had time to sit down and come back to it the boss didn't impact the story too much in the long run. I am glad we got to see more in this world and can't wait to see what's next!

Historia
Anna does boring things for terrible people because even criminals need office help and she needs a job. Working for a monster lurking beneath the surface of the world isn’t glamorous. But is it really worse than working for an oil conglomerate or an insurance company? In this economy? A sharp, witty, modern debut, Hench explores the individual cost of justice through a fascinating mix of millennial office politics, heroism measured through data science, body horror, and a profound misunderstanding of quantum mechanics.

really good
Revisado: 10-10-20
short review before bed and days after finishing. I almost returned it after the first event of potential child abuse. Then another time it was just a mention of child endangerment. just the two times i believe.. But I was caught in the story, curious how it would pan out for the hench. MC really connected with me in her thorough ways. The book has characters who felt like flawed humans, motivated and caring but villainous. I think she is bi which is fine but I didn't see the purpose of her only ever making mental appreciation for so many people. That assessment be off as I don't seek romance in books though, not that there was really much here. I don't know if she should be also recognizing the appearance of more around her other than what she was liking, or not.
I'm going to have to keep an eye out on this author! I'm often looking for good superhero audiobooks that aren't male wish fulfillment or veiled romance. Glad I found it!

Revisado: 10-02-20
I am questioning if this was written by the same author. I mean I know it is but a lot of the good stuff from the 1st story is just poofed. And the writing didn't make sense to me in a lot of places, having nothing to do with motivations and more towards pacing and being repetitive.

Revisado: 08-30-20
The story seems well written but it nagged at me how the women were written. It is like a savior complex where all the men (except the barely seen dad) are bad except for the main character. I want to call it a male fantasy/wish fulfillment but I think about the sheer number of stories that are significantly worse in that department. I enjoyed the sci-fi of it all, including the change of pace later in the book.
Trigger warning for child abduction, suggestion of child molestation, and child murder. Really wish all books would give a heads up about those.

Gretch Wolgast is a bit of a dud. Just ask her. She’s a 21-year-old college dropout who has a loser job at the mall. Sure, she can lift a tennis ball with her telekinetic powers. But only three feet in the air. And she has to be sitting. Gretch is an OP, one of thousands born in Orlando, Florida, in the early 1980s who mysteriously developed the ability to move things with their minds. Unfortunately, she turned out to be the weakest of the bunch. Now, Gretch’s life is being turned upside down. She witnesses a murder and discovers a wide-ranging conspiracy.

I missed this book release 😭. I'm glad I found it now though. If you enjoyed the author's other books, you'll enjoy this. It is less wacky then Andrea's stories but there are still super powers. I really enjoy how Mr. Kane writes women and it doesn't even revolve around some romance! 😍 <3 <3 Thank you!!!!

It's okay..
Revisado: 01-10-20
I mostly loved the first story and missed when the manatee's book was released on audible so this was obvious to grab. I can see how a lot of people enjoy these continuations, unfortunately it just went too much political satire for me personally. I'm sure Libertarians will love this work as nothing is said against them which makes it seem like there is a delicateness there. I try to think of it as how ignorant they are at these ideals and that should make this more funny but it doesn't really. The cow part of the book was just dragging, it went on far too long. And a bit off the review, sadly I think people honestly believe that it is just cow gases that are the only issue about the livestock.
There is a lot of funny bits in the stories and I am so glad for that but I won't be continuing Larry's stories. Several other reviewers were able to articulate what I have been thinking for weeks.
Can Adam Baldwin PLEASE narrate more books! I have thoroughly enjoyed that lol.
