Historia
In a garden sit the aged Kublai Khan and the young Marco Polo—Mongol emperor and Venetian traveler. Kublai Khan has sensed the end of his empire coming soon. Marco Polo diverts his host with stories of the cities he has seen in his travels around the empire: cities and memory, cities and desire, cities and designs, cities and the dead, cities and the sky, trading cities, hidden cities. As Marco Polo unspools his tales, the emperor detects these fantastic places are more than they appear.

Terrible book compounded by horrible narration
Revisado: 05-12-24
This book is ridiculous and then when you listen to it there is a mispronounced word on almost every page. You should not charge one credit for this book on Audible. It is a waste of money! I would really like a refund.

Historia
The Hour of the Star, Clarice Lispector's consummate final novel, may well be her masterpiece. Narrated by the cosmopolitan Rodrigo S. M., this brief, strange, and haunting tale is the story of Macabéa, one of life's unfortunates. Living in the slums of Rio and eking out a poor living as a typist, Macabéa loves movies, Coca-Colas, and her rat of a boyfriend; she would like to be like Marilyn Monroe, but she is ugly, underfed, sickly, and unloved.

Many words are mispronounced
Revisado: 12-15-23
I found the book to be a bit strange but Lispector is like that. However, many words were mispronounced which I found very distracting. It took away from the overall enjoyment of the book,
