Reviewed engagements as opposed to identifying shifts in military thinking or perspective.
Also asserted perspective without support (MacArthur viewed by many historians as inept was not addressed).
I expected more from Rhodes scholar and West Point professor.

Frustrating

Author blamed Welsh for lots out of his control undermining the issues he influenced.
Projecting past employment and performance experience forward as times and economic conditions change is flawed. Attributing broad international trends to one individual is unfair.
However cooking the books to meet expectations and the part reporters, analysts, bankers, etc were complicit was touched on but not sufficiently explored.

Blind spots abound

Could have been a great book but frequently turns away from underlying belief of interviewees with a virtual shrug and a "can you believe that?"
Makes multiple comparisons between her Berkeley and Louisiana with skewed definitions

Initially interesting but becomes redundant

I write this as a science geek and recovering management consultant so creative applications of problem solving are of interest to me
First couple of creative applications of science calculus are interesting from a creative point of view
Subsequent questions become formulaic in approach and I lost interest

Not what I expected

I enjoy gospel music and thought this would be a good way to get to know the history and artists.
Unfortunately beyond the first couple songs (Amazing Grace & Battle Hymn of the Republic) I didn't know the music so the stories behind them were not that interesting.
If a version of the songs was included at the beginning of each chapter this would have been far more interesting.

The content is VERY superficial, I recognize that this is titled as a survey but some actual insight and content is still appropriate.
On top of that the narration is abysmal, very flat and halting.

Disappointment

After "the curious incident", a book that I absolutely loved, I was greatly disappointed.
I found this book to be wanting of a story line.
There really was limited overall message/story that linked everything together

Logical but repetitive

excellent insight into the way connections link things throughout our world and shift our reality from simple personal networks to the internet.
The thesis is intriguing but the book drags at time.

Informative but self indulgent

This is a highly informative look into a world that few have access and fewer can truly tell about - the mind of a savant.
It is quite insightful and informative to see how his mind works
Unsurprisingly the story dips toward self indulgent tangents on a periodic basis but overall is a worthy book
