Why do salespeople fail to build pipeline, avoid buyer objections and conflict, and convert sales meetings into qualified opportunities? It's not a methodology, process, tendency to challenge, or their product knowledge. They don't know how to sell to people.

The ultimate guide to be an ELITE seller
Revisado: 03-28-25
If you are in enterprise sales, you need to listen to this book, Period. That's all you need to know.
Why are you still reading? want to know more? We had Richard join us at our SKO to present to our team. He inspired, empowered, and guided our team to achieve excellence.
The book is about building and empowering champions (No Champion - no sale) but it is about much more. It talks about leading with a vision, building trust, building empathy, understanding your customers, managing the sales process, understanding and navigating complex buying teams, their politics, and emotions, etc,
This is NOT a book to listen to while doing chores. This is a book to read slowly, carefully, and take notes.
More importantly, this book will make you a better sales professional. An Elite sales professional.

A LONG book about a simple concept
Revisado: 07-18-24
I am surprised at how many positive reviews this book has. I have a contrarian view. It's not like his arguments or his research is incorrect. It's solid and interesting.
My main problem with this book is its length. Time is our most valuable resource. The concept is a very simple one. You can listen to the first 30 minutes of the last chapter and get 90% of the value of the book. Why spend 18 hours describing this concept?
I see the value in the examples, but they have so many useless details! In describing the extractive economy of the Spanish people in Latin America, there is no need to provide so many names, dates, events, that are irrelevant to the topic of the book and insufficient from a history perspective. It's like the author either wanted to get to good use every piece of research he got, or like others, think that the longer a book is the more "complete" it is.
In summary: inclusive versus extractive economies is the main difference that determines when a nation achieves prosperity. A white paper or 2 hour book would have been perfect to describe the topic and provide examples. I skipped the second half of the book. Still, I feel like I wasted 8 hours of my life.

Eastern Europe has long been thought of as the "Other Europe", a region rife with political upheaval, shifting national borders, an astonishing variety of ethnic diversity, and relative isolation from the centers of power in the West. It has also been, and continues to be, pivotal in the course of world events. A History of Eastern Europe offers a sweeping 1,000-year tour with a particular focus on the region's modern history.

Excellent course and excellent narrator -enjoyable
Revisado: 06-14-24
This is one of the best Great Courses I have listened to. The narrator is eloquent, passionate, and entertaining. It never got boring. I learned a good amount about history in the lecture and wanted to continue listening to it.

From the start, his path was never predictable. Steve Jobs was given up for adoption at birth, dropped out of college after one semester, and at the age of 20, created Apple in his parents' garage with his friend Steve Wozniack. Then came the core and hallmark of his genius - his exacting insistence on perfection, his counterculture life approach, and his level of taste and style that pushed all boundaries.

Not the best biography
Revisado: 04-29-24
There are many biographies of Steve Jobs out there. This one is short and simple , but far from the best.
The title "The man who thought different" made me expect the book would analyze his philosophy, how he learned, how he thought. But the boo does not. It's just a biography. Pretty simple.
If you are looking for the quick bio for Steve, this is OK. Otherwise, there are much better alternatives.

More detailed history than insights
Revisado: 04-29-24
I was looking forward to this audio book, especially given Ryan Holiday's reputation.
It's OK. I have two problems with it.
1. It's a detailed chronological biography of the stoics. As such, it is full of details on when someone did what, and what happened in which year, but little summarization of the stoic philosophy or the principles each stoic brings to the table.
2. The narration is horrible. I kept thinking it sounded like when in school the teacher asked a kid to step to the front and read a book. It was bad.
Honestly, I skipped a few chapters, it was too bad. Still, it provided a good amount of information and left me with a better understanding of the stoics and their history.

Many think that they understand the secrets to the success of the biggest tech companies: Facebook, Amazon, Apple, Netflix, and Google. It's the platform economy, or network effects, or some other magical power that makes their ultimate world domination inevitable. Investment banker and professor Jonathan Knee argues that the truth is much more complicated - but entrepreneurs and investors can understand what makes the giants work and learn the keys to lasting success in the digital economy.

Good yet imperfect analysis of big tech leaders
Revisado: 07-29-22
I was looking forward to this book because it is a very interesting topic for me. Fundamentally, the author confuses a platform with a channel. Turns out, he is not a technologist but a financial expert. Netflix is not really a platform. Anyway, the book is really an analysis on FAANG (Facebook, Apple, Amazon, Netflix, and Google) how they take advantage of the network effect and how it impacts and their competitive advantages. In this it is good. I don´t agree with some of his observations but it is an interesting book.

It is astonishing that Simón Bolívar, the great Liberator of South America, is not better known in the United States. He freed six countries from Spanish rule, traveled more than 75,000 miles on horseback to do so, and became the greatest figure in Latin American history. His life is epic, heroic, straight out of Hollywood: he fought battle after battle in punishing terrain, forged uncertain coalitions of competing forces and races, lost his beautiful wife soon after they married and died relatively young, uncertain whether his achievements would endure.

Fantastic history, a bit detailed
Revisado: 02-25-22
This is a very well researched, well written, and well narrated book about one of the most exceptional leaders in history. Anyone who appreciates history should learn more about Simon Bolivar, and this book is a fantastic resource to do it.
The narration is clear and expertly modulated. The text, while long at 20 hours, and sometimes with a bit more detail than what is necessary, is rich and always interesting. The author does not try to exaggerate Bolivar's qualities nor does he try to hide his flaws. I feel this is a very accurate, honest and factual book.
Unfortunately, his vision of a unified South America never came to fruition, however, his strategic mind, values-driven purpose, and military tactics were exceptional. An exceptional book about an exceptional man. Bravo.

Famously, over a four-year period, James Dyson made 5,127 prototypes of the cyclonic vacuum cleaner that would transform the way houses are cleaned around the world. In devoting all his resources to iteratively developing the technology, he risked it all, but out of many failures and setbacks came hard-fought success. In Invention: A Life, Dyson reveals how he came to set up his own company and led it to become one of the most inventive technology companies in the world. It is a compelling and dramatic tale, with many obstacles overcome.

Great book on entrepreneurship, a little salezy
Revisado: 02-25-22
The first half of the book is awesome. It talks about the entrepreneurial vision, the struggle, The work to develop his vacuum, improve it, make it successful, sell and market it - all this was great.
Then the book turns into an ad for the company, talking about all the virtues of Mr. Dyson and how incredibly advanced and impossibly perfect everything they do is. As an example, the book talks about their robot vacuum that competes with the Roomba, and it says it is magical, uses lasers, the software is so advanced, etc. I was interested, so I looked it up. The company does not sell it anymore because of its flaws. They don't even sell a robot vacuum. I felt like I has being swindled.
Then there is the whole electric car thing. Most CEOs would have been fired for making a multi-billion mistake. But he puts it under the rug so nicely.
The result is that now I am suspect of all the information in the book. I don't know what is true and what is an exaggeration or just PR.
Sad, it could be a wonderful book.

Seriously. This reads like a school report of the book for middle school level. There is no summary of the key points or analysis or opinion. But there is a listing of the characters in the book and other elements that sound very academic.
