Historia
In what is considered one of Heinlein's most hair-raising, thought-provoking, and outrageous adventures, the master of modern science fiction tells the strange story of an even stranger world. It is 21st-century Luna, a harsh penal colony where a revolt is plotted between a bashful computer and a ragtag collection of maverick humans, a revolt that goes beautifully until the inevitable happens. But that's the problem with the inevitable: it always happens.

Magnificent Work of Art
Revisado: 01-29-25
This is the greatest audio book I've ever heard. I first read this book when I was ten years old, and I've reread it several times over the years. But it is startling to hear this audio version. The heros: Manny and Mycroft are so beautifully voiced by Lloyd James that I can only sigh and say, "Listen to this, it will excite you, inspire you and make you weep for humanity and for A. I. It is so optimistic and yet tragic that it will compell you to embrace the future with a feeling of hope and fear." Again, to Lloyd James, thank you so much for voicing one of my favorite books with such power, precision and sublime imagination!

Dublin is in the middle of a heat wave, and tempers are running high. The Celtic Tiger is well and truly dead, activists have taken over the headquarters of a failed bank, the trial of three unscrupulous property developers teeters on the brink of collapse, and in the midst of all this, along comes a mysterious organisation hell-bent on exacting bloody vengeance in the name of the little guy. Paul Mulchrone doesn’t care about any of this; he has problems of his own.

Although I do not read short stories very often, I found these to be supremely satisfying. A marvelous way to spend more time with Bruno, Balzac and the marvelous cast of St. Denis characters. Thank you Martin for writing such wonderful stories and thank you Robert for bringing so much life to the reading!

Spectacular, Riveting Story!
Revisado: 01-26-23
This series is one of Scalzi's finest! From one simple premise, he created a labyrinth of mystery. The thinking behind this is fascinating and the characters are so deeply drawn you will be transported like few books ever do. I recommend this series to anyone who loves a well done mystery!
The Audible Narration is superb, easy to listen to and so convincingly first person. An absolute blast to listen to, though you may miss an exit or two if you are driving!

Historia
Sixteen-year-old Charlie Ovid, despite a brutal childhood in Mississippi, doesn't have a scar on him. His body heals itself, whether he wants it to or not. Marlowe, a foundling from a railway freight car, shines with a strange bluish light. He can melt or mend flesh. When a jaded female detective is recruited to escort them to safety, all three begin a journey into the nature of difference, and belonging, and the shadowy edges of the monstrous. What follows is a story of wonder and betrayal.

Outstanding Characters, Story, AND Great Narration
Revisado: 01-11-23
This is such a delight, always another discovery, always deeper. Great writing and truly a narrator who speaks the prose with such relish and poise. Every sentence is cherished. The author should be delighted by the wisdom of the Narration! I love this book.

Historia
Some lines should never be crossed. Police corruption, an investigation that ends in tragedy and the mystery of a little girl’s silence – three unconnected events that will prove to be linked by one small town. While detective Cormac Reilly faces enemies at work and trouble in his personal life, garda Peter Fisher is relocated out of Galway with the threat of prosecution hanging over his head. But even that is not as terrible as having to work for his overbearing father, the local copper for the pretty seaside town of Roundstone.

If you haven't read King in a while, choose this.
Revisado: 08-12-21
I'm 66 years old, and over the years I've read many of his novels.I have always enjoyed them, but I mostly read science fiction, mysteries and flat out fantasy. Because King has always been so popular, I neglect him for years at a time. I don't want to be part of a crowd. I like the idea of an author who is relished by a small, select audience, not one universally acknowledged as readable by everyone. Seriously, I'm a petty snob.
In this novel, King quickly arrests my expectations. I normally read via Kindle, but I planned to do a long drive, so this time I bought the Audible edition.I read reviews complaining about the volume level and competence of the reader, but after sampling I decided he was worth a try. Actually, there are NO audio issues. I am an AV Maven professionally, I am expert in audio quality, and this audible edition is technically perfect. PERIOD. The only explanation for the reviews that criticize the volume and quality of the recording are the astounding number of people who cannot control their cell phones and apps, and then blame their problems on anyone but themselves.
Paul Sparks is the audible reader and he delivers an extraordinary performance, creating indelible characters through his mastery of the art of creating voices. He will win an Audie for this book!
Getting back to why you would want to read this book, I would say to you that it is not horror, not traditional King, but it is a book that will powerfully move you. It is continually exciting. The characters are so compelling and so human. We see ourselves on every page. What is this book about?
1, It is a stirring call to write for anyone who has ever even briefly thought they might like to write a story. That's most of the human race IMHO, and King carefully inspires throughout this book.
2. It is an intricately plotted and meticulously crafted mechanism that mixes true crime, war memoir, and love story so adroitly that several times you will start in your chair and simply tip your hat to Mr King. He is marvelous at surprising and delighting you with new bits of business. He knows precisely when you can't wait anymore and simply have to have a satisfying action scene. Then he delivers so much, so fast, in such profound language, that you reel back in your chair, so grateful and eager to begin another page but you must learn to breath again
He is at the top of his game, a great master in the tradition of Leonardo and Rembrandt. He is teaching us to continue his work as He entertains us.
Thank you, Stephen King!
And you, you doubting Thomas, give this book a try. Amazon does give refunds if you simply don't like a book. You will love this book.
