Intriguing details and background
Revisado: 11-12-13
This delightful book begins with curiosity, applies facts and literary insights, and solves mysteries through logical literary analysis and historical background. A fascinating read for anyone who enjoys Austen's six classic novels. As if they needed it, Austen readers will discover a thousand reasons to read each novel all over again.
John Mullan writes with humor, and a conversational, rather than purely academic, style. After listening to it in audio, I bought the book so I can read sections again.

Historia
Thousands of people have had near-death experiences, but scientists have argued that they are impossible. Dr. Eben Alexander was one of those scientists. Neurosurgeon Alexander knew that NDEs feel real, but are simply fantasies produced by brains under extreme stress. Then, Dr. Alexander’s own brain was attacked by a rare illness. The part of the brain that controls thought and emotion shut down completely. For seven days he lay in a coma. Then Alexander’s eyes popped open. He had come back. Alexander’s recovery is a medical miracle. But the real miracle of his story lies elsewhere.

an inspiring testimony of miracles and faith
Revisado: 12-06-12
What a marvelous testimony of family, faith and miracles. That the author is the narrator makes this personal account all the more real. His intelligence and his sincerity are clear.
My prayer is that those who believe will be encouraged, and those who don't believe as they listen to the first chapter, will believe as they listen to the last.
