Historia
The Suez Crisis of 1956 was the nadir of Britain's twentieth century, the moment when the once-superpower was bullied into retreat. "Great Britain has lost an empire and not yet found a role," said Dean Acherson, a former US secretary of state. Acheson's line has entered into the canon of great quotations: but it was wrong. Britain had already found a role. The leaders of the world just hadn't noticed it yet. Butler to the World reveals how Britain came to assume its role as the center of the offshore economy.

Excellent, surprising and easy to read/listen to
Revisado: 11-14-22
Great disassembly of the biggest money laundering operation in the world: London, and the UK in general. Well worth a listen, and full of quite a few surprises. Author reading it makes it so much better too.

Historia
In The Butchering Art, the historian Lindsey Fitzharris reveals the shocking world of 19th-century surgery on the eve of profound transformation. She conjures up early operating theaters - no place for the squeamish - and surgeons, working before anesthesia, who were lauded for their speed and brute strength. They were baffled by the persistent infections that kept mortality rates stubbornly high. A young, melancholy Quaker surgeon named Joseph Lister would solve the deadly riddle and change the course of history.

Awesome and scary

glad I didn’t live in Victorian times!
Would have preferred a female performance as the author is female (and is a great presenter based on podcast interviews) but overall it’s excellent.

Historia
For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

Work out which fucks to give.
Revisado: 03-02-19
This book was a lot more than I expected. The title - and its relative crassness - distract from some of the excellent observations and messages inside. Don’t buy it for “not giving a fuck”. Buy it to work out which fucks to give.

Historia
In this groundbreaking book, acclaimed media scholar and technology author Douglas Rushkoff calls on us to abandon the monopolist, winner-takes-all values we are unwittingly embedding into the digital economy and to embrace the more distributed possibilities of these platforms. He shows how we can optimize every aspect of the economy - from central currency and debt to corporations and labor - to create sustainable prosperity for business and people alike.

It's not just about the google bus situation. It goes into detail around the pursuit of growth over a sustainable long term business. Well worth reading.
