These is my Words review

What a lovey story !!
This period piece telling the story of the life (20 years) of Sarah is written in a diary style.
It is a beautiful story with all the ups and downs of life -Births and deaths, celebrations, loss, trauma, survival, love, romance, adventure and violence - you name it, it is there.
It is written so that, even a person, like me who does not know America at all , gets a good sense of how the "Wild West" was during that time.
I got an "Anne of Green Gables" feel from this book - with a young, strong, female lead character, set in challenging circumstances, following her dreams.
Narration fit the character well.

Historia
When faced with an empty nest, Kari decides to spread her wings. Giving up a job she loves, she sets off to walk across a whole country. A big one. A contemporary take on an ancient experience, Pilgrim is an entertaining and moving memoir of Kari’s 900-kilometer walk to Santiago de Compostela in Spain. In classic pilgrim fashion, she meets and befriends an array of companions along the way, from all walks of life, united by a common sincerity of purpose. Battling through sun and snow, mud and mountains, blisters and bedbugs, her real destination turns out to be "deep peace".

Pilgrim Review
Revisado: 02-23-24
I enjoyed Carolyn's book, it was a good listen whilst also training for my own Camino. I've taken some notes from her experience which I think will be valuable on my journey.
Carolyn also did a good job of Narrating the book, it almost felt as if we were having a conversation.

Never Lie review
Revisado: 02-23-24
At first this was just a nice, relaxing book that I enjoyed listening to. Fairly interesting characters, some originality in the story line, but for most of the book it felt quite predictable. I was constantly thinking - I know how this will end - but I enjoy the story so I will finish it. And then... it is not.
I have to say - excellent ending - this will make a terrific movie.

An unlikely pilgrim battles agoraphobia to reclaim life beyond the sofa. The 800-kilometer journey along the Camino Frances provides a scenic backdrop to ponder midlife crisis and chronic illness, an empty nest and marital discord, military service and post-traumatic stress, rage and grief, heartbreak and fear - and the way forward.

Blanket of stars review
Revisado: 02-23-24
Overall I enjoyed the story.
Some of the writer's traumatic experiences (from her past which she was dealing with during her Pilgrimage) touched me deeply as I am sure many woman, at some stage in their life, are confronted with some sort of sexual violence or assault - most of which never get addressed or resolved - woman just deal with it. Sad but true.
I enjoyed the fact that the writer was not reserved with (in detail) elaborating on her interactions with some of her pilgrim companions. In most books I mostly seen positive and enlightening interactions between pilgrims- I therefore think that this was a much more realistic telling, even if some interactions were quite shocking or even repulsive.
I did find that the Narration was at times very monotone and it seemed as if there was often changes in the microphone from one chapter to another which made some sections of the book sound soft or muffled and others as if talking in a tin. The sound quality is not constant throughout the whole book but it was not so bad that I could not bear it, I got used to it.

Morgan is determined to prevent her daughter from making the same mistakes she did. By getting pregnant and married way too young, Morgan put her own dreams on hold. Clara doesn’t want to follow in her mother’s footsteps. Her predictable mother doesn’t have a spontaneous bone in her body.

Reality check
Revisado: 03-20-23
So I read a couple of the bad reviews and it seems they all focussed on the explicit scenes and crude language…however, I found that it made the storyline much more realistic.
The story is true to the emotional turmoil one goes through in an abusive relationship and the fact that even abusive relationships are not all bad -that , for an outsider, it may be difficult to understand the complexity of the relationship between an abuser and his/her victim.
I think it was well written- once started I could not stop.

Revisado: 09-06-20
I enjoyed The Life we Bury !!
Even though I am a older person I could relate to the young student having quite a complex life at such a young age with mother who is drunk, a brother that is autistic and the trauma he had to go through as a young boy.
Although this story-line is quite different – the book reminded me of the “Tuesdays with Morrie” book which was life changing for me. Young student writer, writing a biography of a dying man….
This book contained a love story, self-discovery, action and violence all in one – a well-rounded good read/listen. Maybe not for sensitive readers….
This will make for a good movie.
The narrator I also found pleasant to listen to - thank you Zach.

Good relaxing reading (listening)
Revisado: 08-18-20
Nice story with a lesson - life is a journey and all things that happen to you (good or bad) will lead you to your destiny if you only "listen" to your heart /intuition/ the "signs".... The universe conspires to bring you happiness and success, you just need to be open to it.
I think it is a good read/listen, and one should do it once in your lifetime. "Feel good" book.
The narrator's impression of the different people the boy meets might be a bit strange because it might not have been how you would imagine it if you read the book yourself, but overall it was pleasant to listen to.
