Resumen del Editor

Take a spiritual journey with one of the leading living Jesuit retreat masters: Fr. Joseph Tetlow, SJ (PhD Brown University.) In this 12-conference program, Fr. Tetlow draws from decades of experience with the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola.

He will guide you to choose Christ in the world, discover your authentic desire under God, and seek God in all things. Designed to fit into your own schedule, his retreat gives you the flexibility to take an Ignatian retreat over the course of a few days or months. You will begin with the principium et fundamentum: the "principle and foundation".

This, of course, is Christ Jesus, in whom we live, move, and experience our being. As you listen to each conference, you will meditate carefully on Christ's whole life on earth. Fr. Tetlow will guide you to let Jesus' passionate love teach you that you are forgiven and honored in God's eyes. As you contemplate Jesus' Passion and death, you will discover God's abiding love for you.

The Spiritual Exercises will further help you reflect on aspects of your life that need reform or renewal, and they will aid you in making vital decisions. Through contemplation, prayer, and reflection, you will discover how all things begin in Christ and through him return to the Father. Join Fr. Tetlow on this moving and life-changing journey today.

Good Topics, Too Much Jesuitry

There's some decent topics covered in this recording. And it roughly follows the themes that St. Ignatius sets out for retreatants. If you are a new Christian or have not taken time to deepen your understanding of the Catholic life, some of these talks might be helpful.

Joseph Tetlow is a Jesuit, and that fact comes with issues. Jesuits tend to have a unique language. For example, in Jesuit-speak, absolutely *everything* is prayer. Riding a bike is prayer. Prime numbers are prayers. Another way of putting it is: The word "prayer" doesn't mean anything. So, when Tetlow says "We will now pray," you may think you should get ready to speak to God or at least bow your head for a moment. But Tetlow often means something very different. So he will say "Let's pray: Begin by imagining a hill...." In other words, he proceeds to say things that have nothing to do with what ordinary speakers of the English language would call prayer.

The other problem with this recording on Audible is that they did not include the PDF. Tetlow sometimes refers to it, and I searched for a free one online. No luck.

So, other than some of the idiosyncratic Jesuit-speak and lack of PDF, this can be a good recording for Christians looking for some meditative talks that will help them better understand how to proceed in life.

Lot of negativity

I’ve done the exercises before. I found this to be focused on the negative in the world instead of meditating on the aspects of Christ. I would not recommend.
