Widower Charles Atkins heart, is scarred by the passing of his beloved wife, and now his life revolves solely around his young daughter, Helen. Hoping for a new start before Christmas, and a mother for Helen, he makes the decision to place an advertisement for a bride.
Leslie Harridge, unwilling to be a burden to her newly married sister, dreams of finding her own husband. When she reads Charles' advertisement, she is drawn to him through his heartfelt letters. Yet, upon arriving at the Atkins homestead, she finds Charles trapped in guilt and grief, a mere shadow of the man she hoped to find. Soon their home becomes an arena of silent battles and unmet desires, leaving her in a loveless union.
Despite the coldness surrounding her, Leslie's warmth begin to melt the icy barriers and love blooms. But unbeknown to Leslie she has already set in motion a chain of events that threaten to break the fragile union.
