Acerca de esta escucha

Meals have always been important across societies and cultures, a time for friends and families to come together. An important part of relationships, meals are vital to our social health. Author Tim Chester sums it up: "Food connects."

Chester argues that meals are also deeply theological - an important part of Christian fellowship and mission. He observes that the book of Luke is full of stories of Jesus at meals. These accounts lay out biblical principles. Chester notes, "The meals of Jesus represent something bigger." Six chapters in A Meal with Jesus show how they enact grace, community, hope, mission, salvation, and promise.

Moving from biblical times to the modern world, Chester applies biblical truth to challenge our contemporary understandings of hospitality. He urges sacrificial giving and loving around the table, helping listeners consider how meals can be about serving others and sharing the grace of Christ.

Must Read

This is a powerful theological exposition of the importance of meals in the life and worship of Christians. I will be purchasing the hard copy as well.

Great Content! BAD reader.

Please re-record with another reader. It’s pretty much unbearable. The reading is unnatural, robotic and somehow the reader manages to reverse the author’s intended emotion and tone at times.
I am thankful for the performer’s willingness to read the book and I can respect his intentions. His voice has a good quality that could be enjoyed if he made some technical adjustments. Consider Nick Podehl’s performance in books like “The Name of the Wind”. His performances have a rhythm and tone that enhance the narrative. His techniques can be applied to non-narrative books like these as well.

Bruce, if you read this, don’t be discouraged! I hope you can improve and master your craft. If you’ve been coached, fire them immediately and throw away everything they’ve told you.

Evangelism!

This will be our church’s evangelism plan, period. Book makes great arguments for hospitality and should be required reading for church elders.

A beautiful invitation back to the simple Gospel

Instead of trying to come up with new systems and new discipleship programs, Chester invite us back to the simple gospel. It’s crazy what can happen when you simply sit down with someone share a meal and talk. This vision to engage with God‘s heart to feed his sheep physically and spiritually brings rest, hope and new life in a post Christian context

Through and food for thought.

I love what Tim Chester does with this topic. Clearly states how important food and fellowship is for a healthy church and how it draws people together. Well worth the read.

Great book, terrible reader

The context of this book is definitely one that is needed for today. I believe since we are in a time where people don’t read as much, narration is key. If the narrator could be replaced for the future I believe it could deliver the impact the content intends to have on its listener.

Great perspective

I enjoyed the information and perspective but am not used to the accent. Sounds haughty.
