Morrissey County, 1980
Jonas Smoker longs for a solitary life on his own farm. His widowed mother wants grandchildren, but he’s bound and determined to live out his dream on his own.
Abigail Speicher has been distraught since her father’s passing, and she wonders if finding a husband will turn her grief into joy. However, her latest prospect is more interested in himself than in her.
When Jonas travels out of town to purchase supplies from the Speicher’s reputable farm supply store, he becomes smitten with Abigail. Love seems set to blossom between the pair, but Abigail’s rejected suitor won’t give her up so easily. He conspires with the bishop to turn the young couple against one another.
