Acerca de esta escucha

Thirty years ago, Harry Winslow's wife and children died in a tragic house fire while he was out of the country on a mission for Uncle Sam - or did they? Someone has left Harry an envelope containing photos of his wife and children some years after they were supposed to have died.

Freshly retired from his years as a government agent, Harry turns to Sam Prichard. Sam and Indie manage to track down his family, but the incredible story only gets wilder from there. An old friend of Harry's had staged the deaths of his family, while leading his wife to believe that Harry was the one who had died, and that the KGB was coming for her family. In desperation, she allowed him to take her out of the country and create new identities for herself and her children.

Now the truth is out, and Harry and his wife are reunited, but then his old friend is murdered and Harry is the only viable suspect. Will Sam be able to prove his innocence? It's a game of poker - and the chips are human lives.

Good listen with decent narration

It took awhile to get going and I was almost ready to give up on it. When it picked up around the arrest is when it got interesting. I love the Poker analogies and the ace in hole with the pistol lighter was damn good. Anywho, enjoyable audio book with decent narration.

Prolific self published author David Archer...

...publishes another winner! During the 24 months since he released the first novel in the Sam Prichard series titled the Grave Man David Archer has released a new book every 40 days on average. That is unusual and impressive but not unheard of; Nora Roberts has released books at a very similar rate for 38 consecutive years, and her novels tend to be longer than Archer's. At almost 9 hours in length Aces and Eights is the longest novel by far in the Sam Prichard series. (The novels in Archer's Noah Wolf series tend to be longer than those in his Sam Prichard series.) Archer publishes books of the "clean", family appropriate suspense mystery type which means no bad language and no graphic sex scenes. The Sam Prichard series also contains a nice ghost named Beauregard from the US Civil War era who speaks only to Prichard's mother-in-law and who is always flawlessly correct in his predictions. Or maybe its just his mother-in-law's ability to foresee the future and she uses Beauregard to keep people from believing she is crazy.

Sam Prichard is an ex-cop in Denver who becomes a private investigator. His first hire was a young woman named Indiana Perkins who has tremendous computer hacking skills as well as a degree from MIT and brought with her a precocious four year old daughter nicknamed Kenzie (for McKenzie). Sam and Indie are now married and he has adopted Kenzie. Sam is also a song writer and singer.

Author David Archer is great at developing characters. While the series is of the modern detective genre with the early addition of US Homeland Security agent Harry Winslow to the major character list the series moves to espionage at times. Aces and Eights delves deeply into the life and career of Winslow. It is my favorite novel in the series. Mikael Naramore narrates the series very well.

Sam Pritchard has a showdown!!

I think this is probably one of the best Sam Pritchard books.
There is a lot more to this story then what the book synopsis gives. Lots of back stabbing, a few murders, a few chase scenes and a twisted plot that is very well developed
So, thirty years ago Sam's friend Harry was away on a mission. Harry's friend tells his wife that Harry has been killed by the KGB and they will be coming after her just because she's his wife. He spirits her away to Brazil for her safety.
Meanwhile he burns down Harry's house with three bodies (a woman and two children). He tells Harry that his family has perished in a fire and even goes to the funeral.
Thirty years later he finds out his wife is still alive and asks Sam for help to find her.
It's a wild, fast paced fun ride.
Michael Naramore does an excellent job narrating.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Ridiculous

It seems that this author has a big fan base. I haven't read any others in this series, nor do I intend to. Just awful. Silly plot, unbelievable characters, overwrought narration. About half way through I asked myself, "Why am I torturing myself when there are so many good listens out there?" Just not for me; I got my money back.
