Intriguing

Well paced, good story different magic, ends like a sequel, kept your interest til the end

Another great Benedict Jacka book!

The only bad thing is having to wait for the rest of the series to be written and released. The magic system is really unique and the main character is sympathetic. I loved the Alex Verus books and from the first entry into this new series, I think I will like this one even more. Excellent narration from Will Watt.

Very inventive

A real page turner. Never seen such a creative magic system. No fat on this plot. Everything has a purpose.

Great original story

Huge fan of the Alex Verus series and I really enjoyed this new series to be. A solid start. Can’t wait for the next book. Narrator was great as well.

Another Awesome Series Debut

This story took a bit to get going, but once it did, I was hooked. The main character, Stephen, is easy to root for and his frustration caused by being so ignorant of the world he’s thrust into, comes across well. My only complaint comes from one particular act of violence. I won’t spoil it, but I almost threw this book across my room. Thank goodness things in that part of the story turned out well. I look forward to the next installment!!

Very much enjoyed this intro to the world! The story was a little slow in places, but that is to be expected. Definitely saw a bit of Alex Verus in here, even though the world is completely different. Ingenuity really makes a difference!! :)
