Resumen del Editor

An Englishman's continuing search through space and time for a decent cup of tea

Arthur Dent's accidental association with that wholly remarkable book, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, has not been entirely without incident. Arthur has traveled the length, breadth, and depth of known, and unknown, space. He has stumbled forward and backward through time. He has been blown up, reassembled, cruelly imprisoned, horribly released, and colorfully insulted more than is strictly necessary. And of course Arthur Dent has comprehensively failed to grasp the meaning of life, the universe, and everything.

Arthur has finally made it home to Earth, but that does not mean he has escaped his fate. Arthur's chances of getting his hands on a decent cuppa have evaporated rapidly, along with all the world's oceans. For no sooner has he touched down on the planet Earth than he finds out that it is about to be blown up...again.

And Another Thing... is the rather unexpected, but very welcome, sixth installment of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series. It features a pantheon of unemployed gods, everyone's favorite renegade Galactic President, a lovestruck green alien, an irritating computer, and at least one very large slab of cheese.

Life, the universe, and everything: listen to the rest of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series and related titles.

Excellent!

As the world's most rabid Douglas Adams fan, I was horrified to learn that Eoin Colfer had blasphemously been asked to extend the sacred Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy series. Thus, I went into this book with the most biased opinion imaginable, mostly to see just how bad of a cock-up it was going to be. Instead of finding the voluminous reasons to hate this novel which I fully expected, I discovered a wonderfully written, lovingly crafted story full of the same wit and charm we loved so much in Adams. Colfer has removed himself nearly entirely, channeling Adams from beyond the grave more perfectly than I would have assumed possible. The respect he has given to the author in doing so has not gone unnoticed by this reader. Well done sir. Very well done indeed.

LOL over and over

I listen to audio books while doing things around the house. While wondering the house my family asked me several times what I was laughing about.
I loved this book. Eoin Colfer did an excellent job and I hope he continues with a 7th, 8th, 9th etc.

Not as good as Douglas Adams

I enjoyed this book, and it's fun, but I found myself asking "is this what Adams would have done?" fairly regularly.

Decent conclusion

It wasn't as good as the Douglas Adams books but nonetheless a very enjoyable romp through the same universe. The recording messed up for me on several sections. They need to fix that. I paid good money. So long and thanks

Unlike the Recent Additions to...

the Mass Effect, Transformers, or Fast & Furious series, "And Another Thing" is a welcome compatriot to the other Hitchhiker's novels. Though not written by Adams himself, Colfer seems at ease writing with the same tongue-in-cheek humor and sudden whimsical twists as the original. Though I'm not literature's most discerning critic, I nevertheless enjoyed this book and the delightful narration provided by Simon Jones. Highly recommend to a Hitchhiker's Guide fan!

Great!

I love how this book seamlessly ties in with all the rest. You wouldn't know that it wasn't written by Douglas Adams, if no one told you. Eion Colfer did a great job!

It was ok.

The author went on to many tangents. It made the book hard to follow. But the narrator did an excellent job. Also to many guide notes.

Not bad

For an adaptation by another author it wasn't terrible. That being said I had to skip several chapters because they were irrelevant, and the should be main character Arthur is only given a minor part, where the should have been very minor character was the main one (zaphod beeblebrox).
If there was another, and if it was actually about Arthur I would listen to it, but I would check the reviews first.

Convoluted mess

Mishmash of HHGTTG ideas without any sense of purpose or even much humor. Should have used Salmon of Doubt material.

Well meaning Douglas Adams fan fic

I had heard this book was based on Douglas Adams’ notes, but if that’s the case he didn’t include any jokes.

The love of the source material is clear, but it’s a kind of a pointless rewrite of the ending of Mostly Harmless. Zaphod is a narcissist, but he’s not this stupid. When was Trillian ever this unpleasant? Ford plays no real role in the story and Arthur just continues to be the universe’s punching bag.

The book has its moments - I chuckled a few times - but it doesn’t really go anywhere and as mentioned the characters don’t make much sense (and not in the fun way).

Simon Jones - the ONLY Arthur Dent - narrates with the cadence of experience, but he doesn’t have much to work with.

Hate to say it, but it was a bust. Keep your towel handy and remember all the good times.
