Resumen del Editor

From Heather Webber, USA Today bestselling author of In the Middle of Hickory Lane, comes this enchanting audiobook.

A mysterious letter. An offer taken. And the chance to move forward.

When Ava Harrison receives a letter containing an unusual job listing one month after the sudden death of her ex-boyfriend, she thinks she’s being haunted. The listing—a job as a live-in caretaker for a peculiar old man and his cranky cat in Driftwood, Alabama—is the perfect chance to start a new life. A normal life. Ava has always been too fearful to even travel, so no one’s more surprised than she is when she throws caution to the wind and drives to the distant beachside town.

On the surface, Maggie Mae Brightwell is a bundle of energy as she runs Magpie’s, Driftwood’s coffee and curiosity shop, where there’s magic to be found in pairing the old with the new. But lurking under her cheerful exterior is a painful truth—keeping busy is the best way to distract herself from the lingering loss of her mama and her worries about her aging father. No one knows better than she does that you can’t pour from an empty cup, but holding on to the past is the only thing keeping the hope alive that her mama will return home one day.

Ava and Maggie soon find they’re kindred spirits, as they’re both haunted—not by spirits, but by regret. They must learn to let go of the past to move on—because sometimes the waves of change bring you to the place where you most belong.

Good one

I hated it to end. It was that good. Didn’t care for voice of Sam but overall it was good. I’ll listen to it again. Has a surprise ending.

Enjoyed much more then I expected to…

Ok I admit I may be a bit biased, I know some commenters felt that this was very slow (which in some ways it is) but my family and I are Coasties (one character is retired Coast Guard) and we just literally just moved stations from this whole area where this book takes place. I think it didn’t feel as slow to me because so much of it was completely recognizable…from places like Daphne and Foley to Spanish moss on the trees, moon pies and mosquitoes… a mention about hurricane Sally which we lived through only a few weeks after moving there… even the characters voices and personalities felt familiar.
(The description doesn’t really make it obvious to you but this is a two perspective book and that southern drawl suddenly coming in could a bit jarring if your not ready for it)

That being said if your not into that small town, slow burn, sappy emotional speak, southern charm vibe then I can see why this book would not be enjoyed by some. Honestly if I had read this book several years ago I probably would not have enjoyed it as much as I did after having lived in the area.

My only only complaint is that one of the male characters is given just the quietest voice and I had to give way more attention to it then I’d like. Couldn’t have the sink running or ambient noise when he talked.

My advice is to give it a chance and just go with it, if your looking for a relaxing book with a few fun twists, mild spookiness and it all ends happily like a hallmark movie then you’ll enjoy this read.

Have fun ya’ll!

(Lol believe me that was painful for me as it was for you, but if one “ya’ll” is too much for you then this book isn’t for you)
