  • In a conversation with Argentina podcaster Juan Pablo Varsky, Messi reflected on his extraordinary talent and career, saying he was "chosen by God" for his footballing abilities. "It's very clear to me that I was born like this because God chose me," Messi shared. "It was a gift he gave me. I tried to take advantage of it, I did everything possible to squeeze the most out of it. However, Just when it seemed Argentina would maintain their lead, Kevin Rodriguez headed in a last-minute equalizer for Ecuador, forcing the game into a dramatic penalty shootout. Messi's cheeky Panenka attempt hit the bar and missed, but goalkeeper Emi Martinez saved two shots, keeping Argentina in the game.
