Beeswax Vinyl Daily August 16, 2024

  • Resumen

  • Non-musical history for today: 1920 – Ray Chapman of the Cleveland Indians was beaned on the head by a fastball thrown by Carl Mays of the New York Yankees. The next day, Chapman became the second player to die from injuries sustained in a Major League Baseball game. The requirement for batting helmets didn't happen until 1971, even though they had been around since the late '50s. And even then, veterans could choose to wear the cloth hats with special liners. The last MLB player to bat only wearing a cloth cap was Boston's Bob Montgomery in 1979. Music history, album anniversaries, birthdays, and deaths for August 16. Recorded in the Omniverus Podcast Studios at Liberty Plaza. Leave comments at tim@beeswaxvinyl.com or 336-422-NUMB (6862).
