  • One evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon, Nerida swam closer to the shore than ever before. Prince Cedric was there, sitting on a rock, gazing at the sea with a troubled look in his eyes. Unable to contain her longing any longer, Nerida surfaced, just out of reach, her long hair floating around her like a halo in the water.
    Cedric's eyes widened when he saw her. He stood, taking a hesitant step towards the water.
    "Are you real?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
    Nerida nodded, although she remained silent, unsure of what to say.
    Cedric's heart raced. "It was you, wasn't it? You saved me that night."
    She nodded again, her eyes filled with curiosity and caution. Finally, she spoke, her voice soft and melodic like the song he had heard in his dreams.
    "I did," she said. "But you must not tell anyone."
    Cedric stepped closer, kneeling by the water's edge. "Why? Why must it be a secret?"
