  • Darius's eyes narrowed, and for a moment he remained silent. No one ever spoke to him like that. He felt anger rising in him, but something else along with it—a flicker of doubt, a small crack in the walls of his cold, hard heart.
    "Go away," he snapped back. "I will consider you. But make no mistake, princess. I will do whatever it takes to secure the future of my kingdom."
