In the first half of the book, Dr. Dunbar focuses on what the owner needs to know to select a great puppy. In the second half, he presents the crucial lessons the puppy must be taught during its impressionable early development. Dog husbandry
Something that stood out that I haven’t seen in other books are the things to do to prepare your dog to be handled at the vet, when circumstances change in the future (such as when you raise your dogs without young children, and then grandchildren come into the mix) and a lot of thinking down the road for the future information.

Fantastically Informative
I have searched far and wide for someone/information that not only makes sense to me, but resonates with me.
I think that Dr Ian Dunbar’s training methods and techniques are the way of the future.
I would recommend this book to any pet owner who wants to be the best pet parent they can. This book gave me a lot of confidence on how to approach my dog, and dogs to come, in terms of their training and integration of our lifestyles.

Lovely introduction to puppies!
Very good book with lots of useful tips. The main points are repeated many times, and shown with funny examples. Very useful and a very nice introduction to new owners or those who want a better behaved doggy next time!
All advises are very specific and well explained.

Awesome book!
I saw this book on a list of some of the best books to read for owning a dog. Although I haven’t read the other books that the list recommended I have read enough books in general to know a good book from a bad one and this book is truly outstanding.
