But there is a third element at work. A malevolent force, the common link in all this death and chaos, is hard at work sowing mayhem to protect its ancient, vicious, very dark roots.

Great story and wonderful narration! AS ALWAYS!

I loved getting to see the dynamic of Rachel and Sally working together and becoming friends. And all the “troopers” on Joe’s team delivered as they usually do. Glad Willie is becoming more secure.

Fantastic

What another great read by Archer Mayor!! Racheal and Sally did a wonderful job in this book. I honestly think if it weren’t for the 2 girls it would have been difficult for Joe and the team to solve this one. Between witnesses being killed and others being paid off it was making for a hard case to solve, all over a family secret.
I highly recommend this book and can’t wait until April 2021 for the newest Joe Gunther book to come out.

Great As Usual- But Who Stole The Last Chapter???

I’ve read and loved all the Joe Gunther books. And this one was no exception. But I thought there was a glitch in the recording when all of a sudden it just stopped. It seemed like, as others have said, the last chapter was omitted . Very abrupt ending and somewhat jarring and unsatisfying.

I was new to Joe Gunther mysteries //Archer Mayor and began listening with book 1. I was captivated by the character building of all the individuals in the series. I almost feel like I know each of their doppelgangers in my own life. As I was saying I began with book 1 and became so entrenched in the Joe Gunther mysteries I binged listened to all 32 books with fascination, escape, and enjoyment. I love the less than perfect characters, the thought processes each character manipulates and how each struggle with mental demons (some more than others) that make them real and come to life. I am also really impressed that not one of Mr Mayor’s stories (of all 32 books) repeat themselves in story line which is a impressive feat. My only disappointment is the next book isn’t out until Sept 2022.

Good book but incomplete ending!

Another good book by Archer Mayor that stops short of winding up the ending. There should have been another chapter instead of an abrupt ending. Tom Taylirson is great!

Really good story!

I am a great fan of the entire Joe Gunther series. Archer Mayor writes so well , with depth and heart. Tom Taylorson is a fantastic reader, all the regulars in these stories are completely identifiable by their distinct voices. He brings them all to vivid life!

Mostly good, but with an annoyingly truncated ending

Good characters and story line, but I wish Mayor would write more interesting endings! Most of his books are lacking in this department, but this is one of the more egregious examples. It’s as if the last chapter was left out! I suppose it’s a stylistic choice that some may not mind, but to me it cheapens what was otherwise a solidly enjoyable book.
