An escapist romp.

Would you consider the audio edition of Coyote Blue to be better than the print version?

There is nothing more fun than a beach, free time, loss of ambition, imbibition , and a Christopher Moore tome. It is so hard to hold one's neck and arm up (old sports injury) and read a great work of literature in the blazing sun, so I plug in my ear buds and listen to that great fellow

Who was your favorite character and why?

The coyote gets to do anything he wants, and I mean ANYTHING. Don't we all want that, plus the supernatural powers. What a combo.

What about James Jenner’s performance did you like?

He took the work right out of my rotator cuff arm while recovering.

Any additional comments?

First read and given to friends in book form, with type on paper, it is still a great

Enjoyed this book.

Hate to say it... but it's, better than Hillerman. Had a Zane Gray book in hand but didn't get to read it. Still true to this day, "No Indians (Native Americans) allowed."

One of CMs best.

This was the 1st book I read by Christopher Moore. Just revisited for the first time in 30 years, and it's still one of my favorites. Not necessarily as good as some of his other books like Practical Demon Keeping and Lamb, but still a damn good story. If you like any of his other books, you will enjoy this one. Also, believe this is the first appearance of MF, a great character who shows up in a few of his other books.

Fun and fantastic read

The story was great and I really enjoyed it. I look forward to reading more by this author!
This book reminds me a bit of American Gods by Neil Gaiman only with a bit more comedy and a little raunchy humor too.

Fun and relevant, as I live in Utah

Comedy, love story and provides a MF backstory. By MF, I mean Minty Fresh, of course. Not appropriate for children, but good for everyone else.

Wasn't really feeling it this time

Let me preface this with the fact that I adore pretty much everything Christopher Moore creates.

Some positive points in this story for me were the characters. He always creates the best characters and really has fun with them. I love that he uses characters over again in a lot of his other stories, too.
I love that he can create such a vivid scene in the readers minds and that he has so much fun with his writing. You can really tell when he's enjoying what he's writing.

This story, for me at least, wasn't as engaging as others I've read in the past. I wasn't really invested in what was going on and it may have just been my mind wandering elsewhere while listening as I do listen while I work from home and have other things happening around me.

It was a little bit of a slow burn for me but I would never discourage anyone from partaking a Christopher Moore novel as I am a firm believer that what's good for the gander isn't always good for the goose or whatever the hell that phrase is.

If you do decide to give this one a go, just keep in mind you're probably not going to get the gut busting laughs you may have gotten with Lamb, the Fool series, or Dirty Job series. I'd say this one is a more lowkey humor maybe more akin to the Noir novel where you still get some chuckles but not a riotous belly laugh. Still a good one but not my favorite.

survival summary Witter by my conversation with AI ❤️

Summary of "Coyote Moon"
"Coyote Moon" by John A. Miller weaves together themes of human survival, instinct, and duty, enriched by the profound backdrop of Native American folklore. Set in the mystical and vast landscapes of the southwestern United States, the novel follows the protagonist through a journey of personal struggle and quest for truth.

Central to the story is the mythical figure of the coyote, a trickster from Native American lore. This enigmatic presence symbolizes both challenge and insight, driving the protagonist toward growth and transformation. The novel captures the essence of survival instincts intertwined with a deeper, almost spiritual duty to life.

Throughout the narrative, the coyote's influence brings unpredictability and wisdom, embodying life's inherent contradictions. The protagonist experiences moments of discovery and self-realization, embracing change and adaptability. By blending folklore with contemporary mystery, "Coyote Moon" challenges conventional norms and expectations, creating a compelling and thought-provoking narrative.

Ultimately, "Coyote Moon" is a meditation on human instincts and the profound duty to navigate life's complexities, honoring cultural heritage and the transformative power of the journey.

ehhhh...

Yes, if you have read newer Christopher Moore, this one is sure to disappoint. If you are reading it to find out where Moore started out, then it is interesting. You can really see how far he's come in developing characters, dialogue and story.
It's much like reading an early Stephen King novel like Carrie after reading Duma Key. You can see the resemblence, but the maturity shows through in the later writing.
