Resumen del Editor

When Dr. Craig Bowman is served with a summons for medical malpractice, he's shocked, enraged, and more than a little humiliated. A devoted physician who works continuously in the service of others, he endured grueling years of training and is now a partner in an exclusive concierge medical practice. No longer forced to see more and more patients while spending less and less time with each one just to keep his office door open, he now provides the kind of medical care he is trained to do, lavishing 24-hour availability and personalized attention on his handpicked patients. And at last, he is earning a significant income, no longer burdened by falling reimbursements from insurance companies. But this idyllic practice comes to a grinding halt one sunny afternoon and gets much, much worse.

Enter Dr. Jack Stapleton, a medical examiner in New York City and Bowman's brother-in-law: Jack's sister Alexis, now Craig's estranged wife, tearfully begs for his help as her husband's trial drags on. Jack agrees to travel to Boston to offer his forensic services and expert witness experience to Craig's beleaguered defense attorney. But when Jack's irreverent suggestion to exhume the corpse to disprove the alleged malpractice is taken seriously, he opens a Pandora's box of trouble. As Craig Bowman's life and career are put on the line, Jack is on the verge of making a most unwelcome discovery of tremendous legal and medical significance; and there are people who will do anything to keep him from learning the truth.

Not disappointed!!!

I, too, ignored the reviews and was glad I did. I had listened to previous books of Robin Cook, read by George Guidall, and knew how good they were. And this one did not disappoint me. Even though he may not be totally up on legal prcedure and terminology -- for example, the judge saying "counsels" instead of "counsel" -- I ignored such MINOR things and thoroughly enjoyed the suspense. It will definitely be worth the listen.

I love the Jack Stapleton character

Nothing in particular but maybe medical terms being so varied I love all of Robin Cook’s books.

Great, Great, story!!!!

My first with Mr. Cook, and it was wonderful. He does an excellent job in character development. The story flows like water. You'll enjoy it.

medical mystery... not my thing

I thought I'd try something new and go for a Cook medical mystery. While it surely was different from my norm, I found it harder to believe than a sci-fi novel.

It was an interesting book but the actual action that needed to happend for the climax/conclusion was protracted beyond standing. Some of the side adventures were interesting but hardly relevant.

Also, the book spoke from the lead characters point of view which set up the mal practice case. while we got to know Craig from this, Cook decided to leave out some very cruicial aspects of Craig's that should've been obvious had we really been in his head.

While I did finish the book, I dont think I'd recommend this book to anyone.

Review with a spoiler…

Review with a spoiler…

I have read several of Robin Cook’s books. And enjoy most of them. Including some of his newer novels. So I went back to listen to this one from a few years ago.

I enjoy the characters and the reader, but once again the author has ended a novel with an implausible and confusing conclusion.

Without giving it away, the person who done it Has no motive. And their actions in the story are completely incongruent with someone who did it.

Plus other circumstances in the book are completely Disconnected and never explained. Very frustrating and annoying.

For the record I don’t need for every book I read to have a bow on it, everything clean and put away nice and neat. However this one ends unrealistically.

Slow at first, but delivers

Unlike his other novels, I find books starring Cook's Jack Stapleton character have a slow, rather boring start. This is no exception, but it manages to deliver halfway through the book. Very repetitive at first, then 2 hours into the book the action starts and a well-defined action plot seals the end. However, regardless of how hard I try, the Laurie character annoys me and that is the spoiler for me.

Captivating

From the first chapter I was riveted to the story and the narrator did an excellent job of voices and holding my interest. As an M.D. in internal medicine, I have enjoyed many of Dr. Robin Cook's novels. It certainly makes my commute to the office entertaining no matter what the weather or the traffic. Overall, excellent!
