A lot happened between Cuba and the United States from 1960-62. Many men died. A few more will hardly be noticed.

So many great characters

The only thing RWW writes better than main character dialogue is the villains he introduces each novel. I HATED the villain in this book which means “mission accomplished”

Disjointed

Who is extremely hard to keep up with the story there were too many crazy things going on but it was a good story after all

Always entertaining .

Fast moving, great characters and narration by Mr Guidall makes for a pleasurable listen Always adds some interesting historical facts.

More laughs as well as action.

Very entertaining. Fast paced. Lots of unexpected chuckles along the way! This book is Ford stepping back enough to allow for a little more Tomlinson. That's always good!

Not White's best

Story was confusing and almost pointless. Saved by George Guidall's narration. Have listened to whole series and this was not his best. For fans of series only.

I wish it wasn't over

I am really not well versed as I should be about Cuba, and because of that I wasn't as eager as usual to purchase the next RWW book. I was however delighted and "hooked" from the beginning. DELIGHTFUL and INTRIGUING!! Thank you Randy. Now get back to work on the next book.

Doc ford is back

Great read. The story was very interesting and thought provoking. There were some humorous characters

Simply way too long to get going

First time with this series , and unimpressed. Characters were mostly caricatures, and the plot moved in multiple directions with little coherence. Marion "Doc" Ford was supposed to be the main character, but seemed a minor player. Had to keep deciding if it was worth continuing to listen. Second half better, more focused, but still a 3-star at best.

I am starting to get put off by Randy Wayne White. I listened to this book while in Singapore and while in Guam. It was just not his best work...and I was so excited to see something involving Cuba given the historical changes taking place between the USA and Cuba. The story started off pretty good, but the whole Harley Davidson thing was just weird and distracting. I didn't particularly like the characters very much and Doc Ford had zero love interests this book what-so-ever.

Not his best work...mediocre at best.

Darkly humorous and gritty tale with political overtones

This is the first Randy Wayne White book that I have encountered, although I have been aware of him for a number of years. He's very good, writes well and evocatively, but I confess I was hoping for something a little more humorous and a little less macho, that is, it's rather violent. I adore the novels of Carl Hiassen, and this is a little bit different. A little more serious, perhaps, certainly his hero is a little darker. I did really love all the baseball stuff though, And his descriptions of Captiva and Sanibel were spot on. And I will probably seek another of Whites books. Hopefully one a little less violent. Maybe one where there's a strong intelligent not psychotic woman playing a major role. Maybe.
