Acerca de esta escucha

This program includes a bonus conversation between the author and Emma Rosenblum, author of Bad Summer People.

"LaVoy is a well-accomplished audio narrator across multiple genres, and most audiobook lovers will immediately recognize her virtuosic voice with its incisive tones. Here, for the large cast, she gives exceptional and distinct narration to each of the parents, teachers, cops, and children (even creating youthful and fang-induced lisps for some of the children). This narration is an immersive experience and the audio version is highly recommended."—Booklist (Starred Review)

“January LaVoy narrates, bringing the personalities of each mother alive for listeners. LaVoy also provides a variety of startlingly realistic children’s voices, which range from sweet and innocent to whining and ill-tempered.”—Library Journal

This audiobook is read by January LaVoy, Publishers Weekly Audiobook Narrator of the Year in 2013. She has also been nominated for 18 Audie Awards, receiving seven, and has garnered over three dozen AudioFile Earphones Awards.

At the Little Academy, mothers fret over their preschoolers, who have developed an unsettling medical syndrome. The children’s odd craving for blood is considered relatively benign (to everyone except their beleaguered moms) until a young teacher is found dead and the only potential witnesses are ten adorable 4-year-olds. Then it becomes clear that the police are looking at the children as not just witnesses, but also suspects…and they’re watching their mothers as well.

Darby, Mary Beth, and Freddie have very different parenting styles, though they’re united in their love for their children. They’re not thrilled about the biting episodes sweeping through the class, of course, and they’re coping to various degrees with the pressures of being a good mom, which suddenly seems to include, in addition to everything else, offering themselves up as sustenance.

Each of them was there at Little Academy the day of the murder, and as the police begin to look at them more closely, their children’s ability to bleed them dry is becoming not merely metaphorical. Exploring the standards society holds mothers to—along with the ones to which we hold ourselves—and the things no one ever tells you about becoming a parent, Cutting Teeth is a witty, original story of parental love that asks if there is anything a mother is not asked to sacrifice for their children.

Unexpected

When I read the cover flaps for this book I thought it was going to be really funny a la Christopher Moore.
It is a very good, though exaggerated, treatise on motherhood.
The main characters moods can get irritating as the story arc progresses, but in short order it’s easy to see where the author is coming from and where the climax occurs.
I THOUGHT it might be supernatural. It’s not. It’s just a darn good book. I listened on audible and read along with my printed copy. It’s worth reading. My children are adults now, and I can see the error of “happy kids at all costs” danger. I am lucky to have nurtured, and disappointed, two great humans!
Kudos to ms baker!

Who knew I’d love a book about toddler vampires

Cute story. Recommend for suburban moms to read. You have a Stanley cup and like shopping at target? Read this book. lol i definitely want to listen to it again. It was like listening to a Netflix dark comedy new mom flick

My New Manifesto

I feel like this book was reaching into my brain and speaking to my soul. It’s the perfect satire, the perfect analogy for what is like to be a mother today. If you aren’t a mother, it might not be for you. But with this novel, Chandler Baker is peeling back the mask of the Insta-perfect mommy’s and instead gives an accurate, raw, sarcastic and whity depiction of how it feels to love someone with every fiber of your being, but also to feel like you lose some of your own identity. Thank you for seeing me.

Wild ride - perfectly describes how far Moms will go

Loved this satire on Motherhood. So many times I’ve thought it was crazy what we will do for our kids and how far we will go if we think it’s going to benefit them. I especially loved how they were trying to normalize blood drinking, it’s not far fetched! As always, love Chandler’s take on navigating motherhood.

Fun twist and so relatable!

As a mother of a 3 year old I thought all of the mothers perspective were very entertaining and relatable. I thought the end added such a fun and mysterious twist! I would definitely recommend this wonderfully fun and unique book, especially to toddler mothers!

Couldn't Put It Down

"Cutting Teeth" is a wickedly intriguing, compelling, and often a little too close to home novel. In a similar vein (ha ha) as Baker's "Whisper Network" and "The Husbands", the characters & language in "Cutting Teeth" are vivid, complex, smart, and funny. I typically only read non-fiction, but I have eagerly awaited each new Chandler Baker release over the past few years. More please! Also, the narrator January did an amazing job with this large cast of characters & Chandler's voice work was a great showing of the author's personality.

Strange ,strange book, not in a great way, just weird

So many times I thought “?why am I listening to this crazy weird book ? I wasn’t enjoying it yet I couldn’t stop listening to it because I thought it’s so different it might just be worth it if I can stick it out and get to the good stuff .Unfortunately I waited and kept going and I absolutely hated the ending.Like the worst ending ever .Terrible, horrible and awful. The best part of this book was the narration. The woman who did the audible voice was great and the kids interrogation portion was entertaining but the rest was weird ,.strange ,whiny housewives with a storyline that was too bizarre to be truly entertaining.I can’t believe I listened to the end and with the ending that it was I was very sorry I did .
