In 1894, Cyrus Barker, London's premier enquiry agent, is entangled in a conspiracy to revive the American Civil War by prominent figures, long believed deceased.

The story was, as always, very good but the Southern accents were dreadful! I’m from the South and do know

Fun Twist on American History

It took me a little while to get into this story but it quickly became a lot of fun as characters were not who or what they appeared to be. At times it was difficult to know who was the good guy and who were the bad guys, but it came out well in the end. Cyrus Barker is aging though not slowing down. Thomas Llewelyn is growing up and becoming his own man, a husband and a partner in the inquiry agency. I enjoy the subtle changes.
The league of Confederate Officers with the possibility of being outlaw-heroes plays on your curiosity and your memory of history. It was a great twist.
Like all of Will Thomas’s books, this one took me on an adventure into parts of Great Britain and through the past into international intrigue.
A great read for the historical sleuth in all of us.

Another great read

Ater reading some of the other reviews, I was worried the southern accents would be irritating but I found I needn't have worried. I enjoyed this offering as much as the previous 14 volumes. I wish I was just starting this series instead waiting for book 16

Another entertaining adventure

Another excellent combination of story, characters and narration. The storyline and characters progress with each new book.

Entertaining and thought provoking

So enjoy the characters and imaginative plots. Partial to the narration of Thomas Lewellyn with his tongue in cheek humor.

The Confederacy rises again in latest Barker & Llewelyn novel

As always, the narration & performance is excellent in this (as of this writing) newly released B & L tale.

The plot is ambitious & for people who don’t live a county away from the current KKK headquarters in the U.S. south in a state littered with confederate monuments, street names, and armed men who—I assure you do not attend balls, own a suit, read Shakespeare, or possess the ability to identify other countries on a map—but are pretty much still trying to achieve the same ultimate goals as this fictional plot, it seems ho-hum.
The author did a good job soft pedaling a lot of things—if human slavery is the kind of “minor” detail he’s cool with glossing over, sort of like he glossed over the minor story structure element of “ending.”

As in, the story simply quit with a whimper.
The normal supporting characters and dog barely appear. I still enjoyed it, but for me personally, it wasn’t very escapist. For other people not from the Deep South, it is likely an interesting plot.

I will still buy the next one because the series is entertaining; everyone likes some stories in a series better than others.

Enjoyable Story With Interesting History Information

Very much enjoyed the story and history around the American civil war. Can’t wait for the next book!

Another excellent Barker & Llewellyn book

I was waiting impatiently for this book. As with the others preceding this, the storyline is such that I did not want to stop listening. The narrator is wonderful. The characters each have their own accent and cadence which is done remarkably. I highly recommend this book to anyone that enjoys this series, and period novels.

Another good Will Thomas novel.

I love Barker and Llewelyn mysteries. This one did not disappoint! I never get bored of these characters.
