Deep Processing is one of a series of books in my “Biblical Leadership Essentials Series” that is designed to facilitate “transformational learning” for establishing a foundation in “spirit and truth” (John 4:24) that will stand the test of time and help you meet the challenges of learning how to be “lovers in a dangerous time.” (Musician Bruce Cockburn)
J. Robert Clinton, Clinton’s Biblical Leadership Commentary, defines deep processing as, “process items which intensively work on deepening the maturity of a leader.” (p. 684) Deep processing circumstances are occasional and may or may not happen to all leaders. They are providential in nature and designed by God to help deepen a leader’s capacity in Spiritual (CHARACTER), Leadership (COMPETENCIES), and Strategic (CALLING) formations. Deep processing items include:
1. Life transitions 5. Isolation
2. Life and leadership crises 6. Spiritual warfare
3. Life and leadership conflict 7. Brokenness
4. Leadership backlash
This book is an introduction to the reality that pain, disappointment, and suffering are part of being human while living in a broken world. How we process pain, disappointment, and suffering will in a large part determine the quality of our lives and our impact on others. This book is designed to be a stand alone volume, but for those of you who want to go “deeper” in your understanding and processing of the redemptive possibilities of enduring pain, disappointment, and suffering, I have developed a discovery learning workbook titled Deep Processing that you can purchase on Amazon.com.
