The Great Time War has raged for centuries, ravaging the universe. Scores of human colony planets are now overrun by Dalek occupation forces. Grandpa Doctor's Own Adventure

Diverting, if predictable, story elevated by perfect voice performance. A treat for 8.5-doctor fans as well as Dalek fans.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely. If that friend is a fan of Doctor Who, this story has all of the necessities to make them happy. The characterization of the War Doctor is wonderful. He is obviously the Doctor but has his own personality and thanks to the excellent narration the doctor is present throughout the story.

What other book might you compare Doctor Who: Engines of War to and why?

I actually can't compare any. I have listed to some other Who books, but this one by far does justice to our Favorite Time Lord.

Have you listened to any of Nicholas Briggs’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, Briggs is a master. I have heard him do Pratchett on several occasions. He just does not miss a beat.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Wanted to probably. However, I had to listen to it in gulps as I traveled around to work sites.

Any additional comments?

This story fits right alongside the Fiftieth anniversary. It is a testament to good writing and incredible narration. Highly recommended!

A great performance!

I loved it and Nicholas Briggs made you feel like see the characters especially John Hurt.

The narrator was amzing sounded just like John Hurt. The story should be accepted cannon.

No more

I enjoyed the book immensely. The plot, the character development, the Gallifrey! I was not utterly convinced by the ending, though. It is supposed to lead right into the events of the Day of the Doctor, but for me was it was a bit too short and unconvincing.

The Doctor, the Timelords, and the Daleks

What did you love best about Doctor Who: Engines of War?

The continuity between the classic show was very much appreciated. I've seen a handful of episodes here and there of the classic stuff, fortunately, they wrap up into the Engines of War. Nicholas Briggs while not exactly being the greatest John Hurt definitely did a bang up job, although it was very much overshadowed by his Dalek voice-work. A shiver should creep down your spine with each robotic "EXTER-MINATE!" I'd recommend to any Doctor Who fan.

I listened to this book while running a half marathon, then continued it later.

Fantastic

I really enjoyed seeing the War Doctor in action and going head to head with Rassilon.

Nicholas Brigg's narration is superb. Dalek stories are not the same without him.

Good War Doctor Story

This is the first War Doctor story I've given any attention to since his appearance in the anniversary episode. I think the only way this could have been better is if John Hurt had done the voice acting.
