Khalil Gibran, nació en Bisharri, Líbano, el 6 de enero de 1883. A los 11 años, emigró con su familia a los Estados Unidos. Aprendió y cultivó con devoción el inglés, lengua que haría famosas sus novelas, aunque no olvidó el árabe. En 1902 inicia su vocación por la pintura, que le llevaría a ser famoso por doquier; y es en París donde expone sus obras y gana el elogio de la crítica. En 1912 se publica “Las Alas Rotas”. En 1923 publica “El Profeta”, su obra más famosa. Después, publica otros libros como “El Loco” y “El Precursor”. Después de unos años en el Líbano volvió a América. Su salud decayó constantemente hasta el final de su vida. En 1917 fija su residencia en Nueva York donde desarrolla una intensa labor como poeta, filósofo y pintor. Su fama e influencia se extienden por todo el mundo. Su poesía se ha traducido a más de 20 idiomas y sus dibujos y pinturas se han expuesto en las grandes capitales del mundo. Sus otros libros de poesía tienen innumerables adeptos, que encuentran en ellos una expresión de los impulsos más profundos del corazón y de la mente humana. Khalil Gibran falleció en Nueva York, el 10 de abril de 1931, a los 48 años.
Publicado en 1918, The madman (El Loco) es el primer libro en inglés de Khalil Gibran. Es una obra formada por una serie de breves relatos reunidos por el autor en torno al redescubrimiento de la libertad a través de la soledad bien aceptada y a la seguridad proveniente de reconocer que toda comprensión siempre esclaviza algo en nosotros. Esta obra está escrita para suscitar intensas cavilaciones, donde nos habla de cosas que nos obligan a pensar en firme a los "cuerdos"; y pensamos, ¿No será acaso, la locura, su locura, la vía más segura para alcanzar una libertad interior absoluta?, ¿La soledad y el aislamiento el mejor camino para llegar a ella?Las historias de El loco, sorprenden porque, habiéndose escrito en los años 20, poseen la misma frescura que si hubieran sido redactadas en este momento. Would you try another book from Khalil Gibran and/or Víctor Prieto?
El acento Español es muy agudo, pues te acostumbras durante el audio. The spanish pronunciation is very strong, but You can accostum during the program. At the end of the program chapter 8, 9 and 10 there are audio problems, like scratched CD.
