Acerca de esta escucha

Valerie Wilson, the object of the "Plame" CIA leak case that resulted in the conviction of the vice-president's chief of staff, Scooter Libby, has spoken publicly only twice since she was outed in July 2003. Now she tells not only the real story behind the leak, but describes her life at the CIA and what happened when her cover was blown.

A tone has been included in this recording to indicate the censored material included in this book.

Censored? Missing Material

I wish I would have known this book was censored by the CIA. The absence of material that was bleeped out of the story was very disruptive which prevented me from really getting involved in the book. I think the storyline, Valarie's actual experience could have been better told without the censored bleeps and more background given of what a good agent she was. Too bad the book is so chopped up by the censorship, she has a very interesting experience that is very informative and should be told in whole or presented in a better method.

A Great Story

This was a great book and even with the redactions still very full and gives an understanding of what happened and what Plame went through. The use of different length tones for the redacted sections was annoying. several of the redacted sections could have just been skipped and the reader could have just continued on with the reading without the tone and it would not be know to the listener. I've listened to several books with redactions and feel the use of the tone to be the worst. Just use a consistent length tone regardless of how much text was redacted or just say redacted and then move on. Other than that the book was well read and a great read.

Buzzing was excruciating!!!

That buzzing for the redacted parts ruined the book for me. I watched the movie, usually love the book more....
Still have the headache! Play as torture. I let it play all the way through in hope that it would get better... was sorry...

An audible challenge but worth it!

What made the experience of listening to Fair Game the most enjoyable?

Due to the censoring from the CIA and the "bleeps", the audible version is a struggle but a necessary one. I recommend reading/listening it in reverse (the editorial section first) to get a general overview of her story and timeline.

A remarkable moment in history

Yes, the redaction tones interfere with Mrs. Wilson's narration of her experience of being "outed" by the White House. But she still comes across as a surprisingly fragile, extremely competent woman. There is also a bonus - an open-sourced summary of her career by journalist Laura Rozen. It is the best description of CIA life I've ever come across, and clarifies what it cost our country when this talented secret agent was compromised - better than the CIA allowed Mrs. Wilson to say for herself.

Betrayal

Really interesting story. Although I was aware of the Plame scandal - I was to busy with my own small children at the time, and was unaware of just how callously she was treated. I knew Bush lied to send us to war - but the level of fact distortion is overwhelming. I am also a Penn State graduate and was at PS at the same time as Valorie although we never crossed paths - how different and calm my life has been by comparison was intriguing to me and I am greatly to both she and Joe Wilson for having the fortitude to stand up for democracy. Thank You

What is happening to our Government?

One of many fine examples showing the trend of the last 20 years of our Government catering to Big Money rather than the People.

insightful

In "Fair Game" Valerie Plame provides an insightful view on how CIA agents were used politically and pressured to sell the Iraqi war. From her life story she seems like an American dedicated to public service and defense of our nation. Its unfortunate how she was treated by that same government. The redaction of many sections in the book by the CIA is a good example.

Great Story of Betrayal by the US Government

This story should infuriate all US citizens, but especially anyone who lost friends and family in the Iraq War. Dick Cheney should he charged as a war criminal for not just pushing the lie of WMD in Iraq, but for outing an operative who dedicated her life to serving this country.
The only complaint is the redacted parts that are beeped out, but that's no fault of the author's.
