Jann Arden moved in to a house just across the way from her parents in rural Alberta to be close to them but also so they could be her refuge from the demands of the music business and a performing career. Funny how time works. Since her dad died in 2015, Jann cooks for her mom five or six times a week. Her mom finds comfort in her daughter's kitchen, not just in the delicious food but also just sitting with her as she cooks. And Jann finds some peace in caring for her mom, even as her mom slowly becomes a stranger. "If you told me two years ago that I'd be here," Jann writes, "I wouldn't have believed it. And yet we still fall into so much laughter, feel so much insane gladness and joy. Beautiful Beautiful Honesty
As some who recently left 27 years in the corporate world and bought a senior care agency, I have at times struggled to deal with the reality of the suffering that the aging process often brings to those we have the honor to care for and their families. Jann’s story, and that of her parents, is similar to many others I have encountered but it is her beautiful and honest writing of it and her constant desire to find the good in all of it that is inspiring. I hope others facing similar challenges might read this and find some inspiration in it, or at the very least, a sense that they are not alone.

From one Calgary girl to another...
I too am losing my mom to Alzheimer's disease. 3 years ago there were just little "glitches" here and there. Forgetting stories already told, pausing just a little longer than usual before finishing a thought..
.. And now, the little glitches are in reverse. Once in a great while, there'll be a sparkle of memory, though very fleeting. Mom as I knew her lives only I'm my memory now.

Love the book but the stated length is wrong
I love Jann Arden. I love the book. My family has been coping with a similar situation and I could really understand the range of emotions. Getting old is not for the faint of heart.
I am confused by the length of the audiobook. It says 5:40 but the length is just under 3 hours. Even more confusing the book downloads as two back to back copies. Just under 6 hours long. Yeah so I don't understand that and I'm a bit frustrated and I do know it's not 1913.
