Resumen del Editor
"Riverrun past Eve and Adam’s, from swerve of shore to bend of bay, brings us by a commodius vicus of recirculation back to Howth Castle and Environs...."
So starts Finnegans Wake, the greatest challenge in 20th-century literature. Who is Humphrey Chimpden Earwicker? And what did he get up to in Phoenix Park? And what did Anna Livia Plurabelle have to say about it? In the rich nighttime and the language of dreams, here are history, anecdote, myth, folk tale and, above all, a wondrous sense of humor, colored by a clear sense of humanity. In this exceptional reading by the Irish actor Barry McGovern, with Marcella Riordan, the world of the Wake is more accessible than ever before.

Historia
This magnificent novel - which secured for its author the 1955 Nobel Prize in Literature - is now available to contemporary American audiences. Although it is set in the early 20th century, it recalls both Iceland's medieval epics and such classics as Sigrid Undset's Kristin Lavransdatter. And if Bjartur of Summerhouses, the book's protagonist, is an ordinary sheep farmer, his flinty determination to achieve independence is genuinely heroic and, at the same time, terrifying and bleakly comic.

Joyce's first major work, written when he was only 25, brought his city to the world for the first time. His stories are rooted in the rich detail of Dublin life, portraying ordinary, often defeated lives with unflinching realism. Form-defining short stories. First published in 1914, James Joyce defined what the short story could be with his collection The Dubliners. A mixture of prose and poetry, each story can be listened to independently, or as a collection. From childhood to maturity, we see what life - and ultimately death - can be, via an extraordinary cast of characters, all of whom experience an epiphany. There’s Father Flynn, the priest; Evelyn, the shop girl who dreams of escape; Mrs Mooney, the butcher’s daughter, who runs a boarding house.

This quintessential coming-of-age novel describes the early life of Stephen Dedalus. It is set in Ireland during the 19th century, which was a time of emerging Irish nationalism and conservative Catholicism. Highly autobiographical in nature, the work is also notable for its being the first one in which Joyce uses innovative “stream of consciousness” writing style. A Portrait... follows Stephen Dedalus from his babyhood into early adulthood.

Historia
James Joyce's Dubliners is a collection of short stories about the lives of the people of Dublin around the turn of the century. Each story describes a small but significant moment of crisis or revelation in the life of a particular Dubliner, sympathetically but always with stark honesty. Many of the characters are desperate to escape the confines of their humdrum lives, though those that have the opportunity to do so seem unable to take it.

Historia
James Joyce’s landmark novel traces the course of three characters on one summer day in Dublin. First, there’s middle-aged wanderer and appeasing cuckold Leopold Bloom. He crosses paths with Stephen Dedalus, a young aspiring writer flirting with indulgence. Among a gallery of generous, ebullient, and brawling Dubliners, Bloom and Dedalus find in each other, for a few hours, a spiritual father and son. Then there’s Molly, Leopold’s wife. Conflicted about love, marriage, motherhood, and sexual longing, she’ll spend her afternoon with a lover.

Winner of the 1973 National Book Award, Gravity's Rainbow is a postmodern epic, a work as exhaustively significant to the second half of the 20th century as Joyce's Ulysses was to the first. Its sprawling, encyclopedic narrative and penetrating analysis of the impact of technology on society make it an intellectual tour de force.

Historia
The young poet Stephen has been recalled from Paris to Dublin to be at his mother’s deathbed. But he refuses her dying wishes: to kneel and pray for her. Now, holed up in his Martello tower outside the city walls, he has to suffer the taunts of Buck Mulligan by day and, by night, the vision of ‘her eyes, shaking out of death to shake and bend my soul.’ Timelessly evocative, Ulysses is far more than the story of Stephen Dedalus’ journey through Dublin.

Historia
Often cited as the best work of short fiction ever written, Joyce's elegant story details a New Year's Eve gathering in Dublin that is so evocative and beautiful that it prompts the protagonist's wife to make a shocking revelation to her husband - closing the story with an emotionally powerful epiphany that is unsurpassed in modern literature."The Dead" is the final short story in Joyce's 1914 collection Dubliners. It is the longest story in the collection and widely considered to be one of the greatest short stories in the English language.

Magnificent reading
I’ve been fascinated with FW for decades now. I can’t tell you what a treat it is finally to have such a worthy reading of the entire text. Amazing!

needs prep to enjoy
before and after each chapter I read a chapter guide/summary, which allowed me to pick up way more than going in blind. Very clever once you have the key.

not finished. but happy.
I bought a Joseph Campbell set from pbs years ago I think it was called on wings of Art. all about James Joyce and quite a bit in Finnegan's Wake. It contained his reading and explaining large portions of Ulysses and Finnegan's Wake. it was so helpful and well done. I did read Ulysses and with that guidance from Campbell's talks, made it through and did enjoy it. I just did not make it through Finnegan's Wake. though all of the material Campbell read and explained was nothing but enticing.
having been a reader for many many years, many and varied books. from classics to legal thrillers. after some pretty heavy changes in my life, including losing the person closest to me and also a reader( we talked about and read books continuously) , I came to a point that I just didn not pick up many books, but listened to audiobooks only(wanting to hear a voice. recently a very interesting and compelling YouTuber caught my attention about the beauty and richness of literature I have been missing. anyway, he made the argument to listen to this recording as, with the idea it's basically like music. and listening to this reading will help more naturally understand . well, though, it goes by so quickly( I'm mean so many I'm used words in a river of meanings) I find myself picking quite a bit, though I know it's so packed, will need to repeat repair repeat. but . some passages just caught me by surprise and I had to cackle.

The best production I’ve ever heard
Barry McGovern is amazing, but Marcella Riordan is the secret weapon.

A progression in earnest souls reading
I started with the audible recording. Then bought the paperback midway through. By the end I was pulling apart the paragraphs in commentaries. I joked with coworkers about how smart I was for reading it. But under it, I really did enjoy tossing on the waves, enjoying the hints of understanding here and there, marveling and oblivious at times. It did for me what a poem does at the edge of my understanding.

difficult yet worthwhile.
This is by far the most complex audiobook I have ever heard. It's hard to truly understand what the heck you even listened to thankfully Brian mcguffins and Marcella Riordan did an excellent narration. I don't think I could have gotten through it if I hadn't gone with the audiobook version. Book one still makes my mind hurt. The other books were much more comprehensible to me. I will definitely have to come back to this book and give it another go through to truly appreciate this masterpiece. The book is filled with lots of quotable quotes. There were times that I was reminded of gravity's rainbow and the illuminatus both of which are obtuse books but nowhere near as obtuse as Finnegan's wake.

Guzzly Mindsnap!
Have waited a long time for an audible version of this masterpiece. I have been listening to many productions from Audible over the last couple of years, but this one definitely gets my topmost rating. It's a little bit much to listen to at first and a little like an altered state of consciousness ensues if one listens for a prolonged period of time. This is an extremely polysemous work. So much so that synchronicity is not far away with every word. I will be listening to this again and again since without a doubt it will fit every stage of life and sound fresh every time. Just like a good piece of music. Hence the use of the term "Masterpiece!" It's alive!

Much Ado About Nothing
Finnegan’s Wake is a remarkable performance by gifted actors, who seem to understand what they’re talking about even though I had no idea what they were talking about from beginning to end. It was quite remarkable to spend 30 hours listening to what sounds like gibberish and yet somehow enjoying it. I feel the same way about much modern poetry and song which are both lovely and incoherent. I’m glad I listened to this “novel” but I don’t know what I listened to.
