En 1476, los habitantes de una aldea andaluza llamada Fuente Ovejuna, hartos de soportar los abusos de su señor, se rebelaron unánimemente contra él. La rebelión acabó en asesinato, pero el pesquisador no pudo arrancar de las bocas de los aldeanos más que una única respuesta: «Fuente Ovejuna lo hizo». Frente a este admirable comportamiento se renunció a continuar la investigación dando por justa la venganza del pueblo. El famoso episodio fue recreado e inmortalizado por Lope siglo y medio después en una obra cuya tensión y fuerza dramática cautiva emocionalmente al lector. Lope de Vega Carpio nació en Madrid el 25 de noviembre de 1562. Fue uno de los poetas y dramaturgos clave del Siglo de Oro español. Además fue uno de los autores más prolíficos de la literatura universal.
