Acerca de esta escucha

In this provocative new book, psychologist and social commentator Dr. Jean Twenge documents the self-focus of what she calls "Generation Me" - people born in the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. Dr. Twenge explores why her generation is tolerant, confident, open-minded, and ambitious but also cynical, depressed, lonely, and anxious. Dr. Twenge reveals how profoundly different today's young adults are - and makes controversial predictions about what the future holds for them and society as a whole.

But Dr. Twenge doesn't just talk statistics - she highlights real-life people and stories. With a good deal of irony, humor, and sympathy, she demonstrates that today's young people have been raised to aim for the stars at a time when it is more difficult than ever to get into college, find a good job, and afford a house. Dr. Twenge also presents the often-shocking truths about her generation's dramatically different sexual behavior and mores.

Engaging, controversial, prescriptive, and often funny, Generation Me will give boomers new insight into their offspring and help GenMe'ers in their teens, 20s, and 30s finally make sense of themselves and their goals and find their road to happiness.

I mostly agree

I agree with many of her facts but think she stopped short when she didn't ask why child care is so expensive and why housing has gone out of control and why the price of college education has gone up so high and why many jobs that didn't used to require a college degree now do.

well rounded

the author makes an effort to paint the generation statistically, not bash it. she provides a well rounded look at why Gen Y acts the way it is characterized, and how that is good, bad, and indifferent.

Disappointed

I had heard this was a good book. Not sure if it was the content or the reader but I completely lost interest and didn't finish the book.

Perfect hate book for the Boomers

The author talked about the women who sued McDonalds because she spilling coffee on herself, then followed it up by saying something along the lines of 'older people don't understand this sort of behavior'.
The entire book (up to that point) is garbage just like that paragraph. It is a goldmine of hateful stereotypes, bad statics, and outlandish inferences. Boomers will love it.
I am ashamed that I bought this book and wasted my time listening to it.

Narrator issues

It was difficult listening to this book, not for the content, but the narrator sounded like a computer voice which made it hard to focus. The content was interesting.
