Resumen del Editor

Gettysburg Rebels is the gripping true story of five young men who grew up in Gettysburg, moved south to Virginia in the 1850s, joined the Confederate army - and returned "home" as foreign invaders for the great battle in July 1863. Drawing on rarely seen documents and family histories, as well as military service records and contemporary accounts, Tom McMillan delves into the backgrounds of Wesley Culp, Henry Wentz, and the three Hoffman brothers in a riveting tale of Civil War drama and intrigue.

Fantastic

As a historian, I know that there were certainly a number of people from the north who sided with the Confederacy against a man who they viewed as a tyrannical dictator. One of my favorites is "William Clark Quantrill" who was born in "Dover, Ohio". He was a brave man & a tough guy (i.e. a real-life Josey Wales). My favorite villainous person who joined the CSA was "Champ Fergusson". He exacted revenge on personal enemies, crossing between TN & KY to do it. It's always interesting reading/hearing about the many interesting individuals as people. This is a fantastic book!

When people think of the American Civil War they tend to think of the graphic nature of The Battle of Gettysburg. This was a very detailed & insightful telling of several men from there who fought for the CSA. I enjoyed it deeply as well as hearing about insights about the battle specifically, that most writers seem to dodge.

Well Researched & Entertaining

This book speaks about a little known and less often covered aspect of the Battle of Gettysburg, and clears up many misconceptions in the process.

Outstanding and Interesting Read!

A very well written, interesting and chronological account of real people. Brothers, friends and neighbors. I wish I could have listened to it in one sitting. Well done.

Interesting unbiased look at American history

I wanted a quick review of The Civil War and The Battle at Gettysburg before my 13 y.o. son went on his school trip. Very interesting historical read. It made the school trip so much more meaningful when we arrived at the Peach Orchard, Culps Hill, and other historical locations. The tour guild even pointed out bullet holes on the building’s in town. This book made this trip so much more real and not just some grass fields with monuments stuck all over the place. I do see myself listening to this book again.

Evan's Review

Interesting book. Had heard of these men before. Clup was only one I had read anything about. I recommend the book if want a little different twist to the Gettysbug story.

too much filler

The premise of hometown boys joining the Confederacy and then returning to fight and sometimes die in the home they left is captivating however, it's not enough to fill the required number of pages. The section on John Brown seems to have been left over from a previous project. There's also a general history of the beginning of the war that the title characters aren't even in. Still worth a listen.
