Is what we do with our money really any of God’s business? Does God mind if we spend money on ourselves? What about debt? Savings? Retirement? How much does God expect us to give? God cares immensely that we manage money with an eternal perspective. Scripture’s teaching on this subject practically screams for our attention. In fact, Jesus says more about money than any other topic—including Heaven and Hell.

"Who am I becoming?" That was the question nagging pastor and author John Mark Comer. Outwardly, he appeared successful. But inwardly, things weren’t pretty. So, he turned to a trusted mentor for guidance and heard these words: "Ruthlessly eliminate hurry from your life. Hurry is the great enemy of the spiritual life." It wasn’t the response he expected, but it was - and continues to be - the answer he needs. Few subjects are as compelling-or as endlessly variable-as love and marriage. The Bible is filled with references to husbands and wives, from the story of Adam and Eve to advice in the New Testament, each open to interpretation. In The Meaning of Marriage, Timothy Keller, pastor of New York's Redeemer Presbyterian Church and bestselling author of The Reason for God, uses the scriptures as his guide to show readers what God's call to marriage is, and why this is such a powerful call.

Poverty is much more than simply a lack of material resources, and it takes much more than donations and handouts to solve it. When Helping Hurts shows how some alleviation efforts, failing to consider the complexities of poverty, have actually (and unintentionally) done more harm than good. But it looks ahead. It encourages us to see the dignity in everyone, to empower the materially poor, and to know that we are all uniquely needy - and that God in the gospel is reconciling all things to himself.

Overthinking isn't a personality trait. It's the sneakiest form of fear. It steals time, creativity, and goals. It's the most expensive, least productive thing companies invest in without even knowing it. And it's an epidemic. When New York Times best-selling author Jon Acuff changed his life by transforming his overthinking, he wondered if other people might benefit from what he discovered. He commissioned a research study to ask 10,000 people if they struggle with overthinking too, and 99.5 percent said, "Yes!"

Many people today talk about justice, but are they living justly? They want to change the world, but are they being changed themselves? Eugene Cho has a confession: "I like to talk about changing the world but I don't really like to do what it takes." If this is true of the man who founded the One Day's Wages global antipoverty movement, then what must it take to act on one's ideals? It's easy for American Christians to forget how Jesus said his followers would actually live, what their new lifestyle would actually look like. They would, he said, leave behind security, money, convenience, even family for him. They would abandon everything for the gospel. They would take up their crosses daily...BUT WHO DO YOU KNOW WHO LIVES LIKE THAT? DO YOU?

In his four decades of urban ministry, Robert D. Lupton has experienced firsthand how our good intentions can have unintended, dire consequences. We fly off on mission trips to poverty-stricken villages, hearts full of pity and suitcases bulging with giveaways - trips that one Nicaraguan leader describes as effective only in "turning my people into beggars." In Toxic Charity, Lupton urges individuals, churches, and organizations to step away from these spontaneous, often destructive acts of compassion and toward thoughtful paths to community development.

Convicting!
This book was a little slow to start with but I've got to say it hit me like a ton of bricks about midway through. I've recently quadrupled my income and became debt free. While reading this book we were contemplating the purchase of a 5k sq ft house and have put that on hold.
The 2nd thing that really affected me was the idea of putting big chunks of money into one ministry as opposed to small chunks of money into several. Right now we give a 1000 here and a 1000 there. There is a missionary we support realized if we just pull all of our money we could contribute over 10% of his annual cost. I'm also forming a small accountability group among Christian business owners I know.
This is one of those books I read out of obligation initially. I'm glad that I did it has affected my life.

The Strategies of Generosity
This book really helped me put things in perspective and gave me tangible, practical ways to become the philanthropic person I aspire to be! It was very informative, practical and full of interesting stories and data. I truly enjoyed the way the book contrasted different ideologies with stories, case studies and data. It made me think and better understand myself. I definitely had some “wow” I’m on the right track moments and some… “Girl you have some work to do!” I have always thought of myself as generous. At times balancing my career and spiritual goals have been a struggle. Grateful someone pulled these concepts together!

Excellent points and practical advice
Very comprehensive and practical advice about saving, spending, and being generous. This book filled a void in financial advice about how to responsibly give lavishly. Before this book, I was bothered by the question of whether to give excess money now or to invest to give a larger sum later. I questioned if saving for retirement was selfish or ensuring I wasn’t being a burden later. This book strikes an excellent balance of being radically generous while still being a good steward to our family. Great work!

Most Practical Book on Money
I found this book to be extremely beneficial for me. The specific examples and dollar amounts the authors used, along with their emphasis on spiritual principles, make the question of "How much do I need to keep?" become a realistic and practical question to ask. The book has inspired me not only to examine my thoughts and practices on money, but also has given me a new joy and anticipation for future giving. This topic is one that is hard for pastors to address, as it seems self-interested, but I feel that God has new levels of satisfaction in Him in store for those that give Him full control of this area of our lives. If the movement needs to start from the business leaders, then I think John and Greg have us off to a strong start. I'm excited to see the change it produces in this generation and in our world. I highly recommend this book for everyone, as we all have to stewart well the resources God has blessed us with.
