The island was then divided into two countries with Dominican Republic on the east side of the island and Haiti to the west. The island is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean to the north and the Caribbean Sea to the south. The Mona Channel and Puerto Rico are located to the east of the island. Some people confuse Dominican Republic and its capital, Santo Domingo, with Puerto Rico or Cuba. Once you become an expert, perhaps you may educate other travelers about this beautiful island and encourage them to explore it as well, with the help of this guide. There are more touristic areas to explore in Dominican Republic, outside the capital city, Santo Domingo.
