Acerca de esta escucha
Happy Singlehood charts a way forward for singles to live life on their terms, and shows how everyone - single or coupled - can benefit from accepting solo living.
Based on personal interviews, quantitative analysis, and extensive review of singles' writings and literature, author Elyakim Kislev uncovers groundbreaking insights on how unmarried people create satisfying lives in a world where social structures and policies are still designed to favor marriage.
In this carefully crafted book, Kislev investigates how singles nurture social networks, create innovative communities, and effectively deal with discrimination. Happy Singlehood challenges listeners to rethink how single people organize social and familial ties in new ways, and illuminates how educators, policymakers, and urban planners should cater to their needs.

It's easy to fall into a bad relationship with dating today, especially for single women. From living in fear of being "ghosted" to enduring endless well-meaning questions about why you haven't found Mr. Right yet, it's tough to be unattached without feeling you're somehow inadequate or doomed to spend life alone and depressed!

It’s possible to value your single time so much that you refuse to give it up for anything less than the amazing relationships you deserve. It’s also possible to stop searching for them so relentlessly that you ignore every other aspect of your life.

The hookup is now part of college life. Yet the drunken encounter we always hear about tells only a fraction of the story. Rising above misinformation and moralizing, Lisa Wade offers the definitive account of this new sexual culture and demonstrates that the truth is both more heartening and more harrowing than we thought. Offering invaluable insights for parents, educators, and students, Wade situates hookup culture within the history of sexuality, the evolution of higher education, and the unfinished feminist revolution.

This essay aims to inform the reader about the real mathematical chances of success he faces in the pursuit of women, as well as the modern-day risks, so that he may make an informed economic decision as to how he best invests his life. It also aims to align the reader's expectations with reality so his life is not ruined by delusion or hope, both of which have ruined millions of lives in the past. But in short, this essay is nothing less than the most important cost-benefit analysis any man will read.

An essential defense of the people the world loves to revile - the loners - yet without whom it would be lost. The Buddha. Rene Descartes. Emily Dickinson. Greta Garbo. Bobby Fischer. J. D. Salinger: Loners, all - along with as many as 25 percent of the world's population. Loners keep to themselves, and like it that way. Yet in the press, in films, in folklore, and nearly everywhere one looks, loners are tagged as losers and psychopaths, perverts and pity cases, ogres and mad bombers, elitists and wicked witches.

Our inattention makes us constantly bounce between two extremes: During much of the day, we live filled with the anxiety and pressures of our work and obligations, and during our leisure moments, we tend to live in passive boredom.

Historia
As a childfree woman, Dr. Amy Blackstone is no stranger to a wide range of negative responses when she informs people she doesn't have - nor does she want - kids: confused looks, patronizing quips, thinly veiled pity, even outright scorn and condemnation. But she is not alone in opting out when it comes to children. More people than ever are choosing to forgo parenthood, and openly discussing a choice that's still often perceived as taboo. Yet this choice, and its effects personally and culturally, are still often misunderstood.

The voice artist had a repetitive lilt
The book itself contained information that fascinated me but I found the voice artist made some unfortunate choices.
He had a constant rhythmical lilt to his voice that was almost robotic and often distracted from the author's extensive and valuable work.
The voice artist lacked spontaneous or natural inflexion and I didn't feel convinced he was fully invested in the story he was telling. He sounded very much like someone reading something aloud, which is something that a voice artist should strive to transcend, in my opinion.
He has a lovely timbre to his voice and excellent enunciation so that listening to him would have been a pleasure otherwise but he just lacked that natural way of speaking that would have greatly assisted in the communication of such complex and rich ideas.
His accents, when he chose to do them, were very good but only some of the characters got accents and vocal characterisation and texture at all, whilst with other characters, he made no attempt to characterise at all. It created an inconsistent and, again, distracting quality to the recording.
I would've preferred to spend more time marvelling over the contents of the book and less time having to consider the skill of the person who was reading it to me. I think he would make an excellent lecturer or news anchor but will not be my first choice to read an audiobook again.

Helpful Book!
The performance is a bit odd, as other reviewers have noticed, and took me a bit of getting used to. But his enthusiasm for doing accents is truly worth it.
