Resumen del Editor
The renowned and beloved New York Times best-selling author of An Altar in the World and Learning to Walk in the Dark recounts her moving discoveries of finding the sacred in unexpected places while teaching the world’s religions to undergraduates in rural Georgia, revealing how God delights in confounding our expectations.
Barbara Brown Taylor continues her spiritual journey begun in Leaving Church of finding out what the world looks like after taking off her clergy collar. In Holy Envy, she contemplates the myriad ways other people and traditions encounter the transcendent, both by digging deeper into those traditions herself and by seeing them through her students’ eyes as she sets off with them on field trips to monasteries, temples, and mosques.
Troubled and inspired by what she learns, Taylor returns to her own tradition for guidance, finding new meaning in old teachings that have too often been used to exclude religious strangers instead of embracing the divine challenges they present. Reimagining some central stories from the religion she knows best, she takes heart in how often God chooses outsiders to teach insiders how out-of-bounds God really is.
Throughout Holy Envy, Taylor weaves together stories from the classroom with reflections on how her own spiritual journey has been complicated and renewed by connecting with people of other traditions - even those whose truths are quite different from hers.
The one constant in her odyssey is the sense that God is the one calling her to disown her version of God - a change that ultimately enriches her faith in other human beings and in God.

For 30 years, Lynn Wilder, once a tenured faculty member at Brigham Young University, and her family lived in, loved, and promoted the Mormon Church. Then, their son Micah, serving his Mormon mission in Florida, had a revelation: God knew him personally. God loved him. And the Mormon Church did not offer the true gospel. As Lynn tells her story of abandoning the deception of Mormonism to receive God's grace, she gives a rare look into Mormon culture, what it means to grow up Mormon, and why the contrasts between Mormonism and Christianity make all the difference in the world.

Quit defending Christianity. Author Carl Medearis is not interested in keeping Christianity alive. Not one bit. Carl believes it has grown into something that is rarely attractive, frequently divisive, and all too often embarrassing. He believes you may feel this way too. In his new audiobook, Speaking of Jesus, Carl gives us a wink and a grin and the permission to stop feeding this thing called Christianity. His offer is that doing so allows us the freedom to relax and feast on Jesus.

As she candidly shares her wrestlings with core issues - such as who Jesus is, what place the church has in our lives, how to disagree yet remain within a community, and how to love the Bible for what it is rather than what we want it to be - she teaches us how to walk courageously through our own tough questions.

Historia
Gripped by the tale of a Messiah whose blood we drink and body we eat, the genre-defying author Emmanuel Carrère revisits the story of the early Church in his latest work. With an idiosyncratic and at times iconoclastic take on the charms and foibles of the Church fathers, Carrère ferries listeners through his "doors" into the biblical narrative. Once inside, he follows the ragtag group of early Christians through the tumultuous days of the faith's founding.

“Leadership” has become a runaway obsession for those who are called to equip the body of Christ for service in the Kingdom of God. The concept of “followership” is all but lost in the wake of this leadership fetish, a near hypnotic obsession. Jesus’ clear call, and the pattern of New Testament leadership, are actually found in a pattern of followership. We’ve been told otherwise but when it comes to a movement in our churches, our families, or the workplace, everything rises or falls on followership. Sweet proposes an intentional shift from leadership cults to followership cultures.

Historia
Best-selling author John Ortberg shares how Jesus' influence has swept over history and how his vision of life continues to impact humanity today. Jesus' impact on our world is highly unlikely, widely inescapable, largely unknown, and decidedly double-edged. It is unlikely in light of the severe limitations of his earthly life; it is inescapable because of the range of impact; it is unknown because history doesn't connect dots; and it is doubled-edged because his followers have wreaked so much havoc, often in his name.

Did Jesus have bad habits? In our culture we have a tendency to describe Jesus in ways that soften his revolutionary edge. Len Sweet uncovers and presents to us the offensive and scandalous Jesus described in the Bible. Did he disappear when people needed him most? Yes. Did he refuse to answer questions directly? Yes. Did Jesus offend the people of his day? Absolutely yes. Popular author and speaker Len Sweet examines the words and actions of Jesus and places them in context.

Frank Schaeffer has a problem with Dawkins, Hitchens, Harris, Dennett, and the rest of the New Atheists—the self-anointed “Brights.” He also has a problem with the Rick Warrens and Tim LaHayes of the world—the religious fundamentalists. The problem is that he doesn’t see much of a difference between the two camps. As Schaeffer puts it, they “often share the same fallacy: truth claims that reek of false certainties.

Author Kevin Lowry's journey to Catholicism is fascinating, often funny, and demonstrates God's unfailing, patient love for all of us. A preacher's kid at a Catholic university, Kevin Lowry settled into a double major in beer and billiards soon followed by uncomfortable run-ins with pious students, failing grades, increasing anxiety, a missing night, and the startling realization that some fellow students actually attended Mass the morning after a party instead of sleeping it off. After getting kicked out, Kevin got his act together, got the MBA, and also got the girl.

How can you still be a Christian? This is the most common question Diana Butler Bass is asked today. It is a question that many believers ponder as they wrestle with disillusionment in their church and its leadership. But while many Christians have left their churches, they cannot leave their faith behind. Bass challenges the idea that Jesus can only be understood in static, one-dimensional ways and asks us to instead consider a life where Jesus grows with us and helps us through life’s challenges in several capacities: as Friend, Teacher, Savior, Lord, Way, and Presence.

Great Book! There are many other religious
People of different faiths. Learn about other faiths and how we all can find some common ground and discover something good in those faiths that makes us discover some holy envy of that goodness. Fascinating!

Fake accent is beyond annoying
Great book, but can’t finish audio version. I grew up in the South and find an authentic lilting Southern accent pleasant, but this was fake, fake, fake. Couldn’t bear to listen to it. Will get kindle version to enjoy BBT in her authentic voice — written word.

Wow!!!
This book has encouraged my own faith and has open the door of my heart to seek continued encouragement in the faiths of world religions. I walked away with a sense of loving humanity more.

An open-hearted journey of faith. Superb!!!
Life got busy, and this priest found her faith dwindling. In her own words, she dropped the bucket of her faith into the well of her own Christian tradition, and instead of coming up with living water, it came up empty. What changed? It was the same church she had served and been served in for years. Join this author as she shares her journey of finding her faith, losing it for a while, then finding it again. The author is a Christian, but the lessons she learns about seeking noble truths in the spiritual traditions of others is timeless and universal. I cannot recommend this book enough! If you or someone you love is seeking some way to deepen your spiritual life, regardless of your background or tradition, this is the book for you! This is not an effort to proselytize anyone, but rather a deep introspective journey about how to find holiness, beauty, and faith worthy of emulation in the faith of those around you!
This is one of my all-time favorite books, and I recommend it without reservation!

An Excellent Account of HOLY ENVY
Loved the passion, effort, Biblical interpretation, and poetical insights on this vital spiritual/religious topic: the influence
of spiritual/religious thoughts on every person ---> from religious/areligious; spiritual/aspiritual; theist/non- theist/atheist alike.
Holy Envy draws one in to the value of religious understanding, moral reasoning and finding the truth underlying religious
practices. This book begins the discovery
of my religious journey. As a fellow clergy-person (along with the author) I felt
encouraged to open my heart and mind to another's rich faith experience.
Thank you, Barbara Brown Taylor !!

Wonderfully challenging
I found this book, wonderfully challenging to my faith in the Catholic Church, and in Christianity. While I still embrace my faith, I’m challenged to see it differently and from the edge, the existential periphery, so that I can embrace other people and I love them where they are. Thank you for a great Read

Insightful
I loved everything about this book, especially the author’s honesty. She explained her spiritual questioning and journey eloquently. Her insights into the worlds’s major religions were eye-opening. Her point of view on Bible stories was unique. I would love to return to college just to take her class!
