A Pleasant Surprise

Although I hated Gill, the main character, for most of this story, I was surprised by almost every twist and couldn't wait to listen every chance I had. The title almost made me skip this one and I'm so glad I gave it a chance. I'm not yet finished with the story but felt compelled to review without knowing how it ends. Give it a chance, you might be surprised...

I've just finished... it's REALLY gooood. I don't know why the hell the author chose such a stupid title. Between the cover and title, I almost passed... the narrator delivered & I'm reminded not to judge the book by the blah blah blah. well done you.

Won’t be understood by everyone

Started out slow . Like others I didn’t like the main character at first but that changed. This really shows the power an abuser has over his victim even after they supposedly escape. The ending won’t be understood by most but it actually has a very powerful message.

A bit frustrating at times

I found myself being critical and judgmental of the main character. I guess no one can really judge someone else that has never walked in the shoes that she was walking in. My heart goes out to any woman or man that is living under abusive relationships. I hope you find peace and safety.

Great book!! Can’t believe there’s man that can harm and punish the people that they’re supposed to love the most

Lots of the unexpected!

Not what I expected! Constant surprises and all kinds of twists and turns! A book that I was always trying find time to listen to just one more chapter! Recommended for sure! I like the performer. She was good except for when she played the voices of the children, which is usually always awkward sounding.

Very good read!!

This book was referred to me in a book group I am in and it did not disappoint. It is intense heart wrenching. I hope my next read is as good as this one.

Chilling

Compelling but uncomfortable. Great narration makes this spine-chilling story hard to put down. It also expands on the reason that abused victims convince themselves to stay with the abuser and how those outside don’t even suspect violence.

Abusive relationship

I really enjoyed this book. .To be in an abusive relationship was portrayed so well. It dealt with such a horrific subject and the outcome was satisfying.

My new favorite book!!!

I was so into this book that one time I found my heart racing while listening, lol. This book had me hating to get out of my car and racing to get back in it so I could listen more!! As I was listening I found myself going "dang it can anything go right for this poor woman". I am a survivor of domestic violence so I connected with this woman!! This is the first book of Ms. Redfearn, but already looking for another after this!!! Great job!! Narrator did an amazing job too!!!

Wow

I have never written one of these reviews before, but this book was a wild ride. You have no idea how it’s going to end until it actually ends I recommend reading this book.
