Acerca de esta escucha

I Kinda See Dead People: A Spiritual Memoir is an autobiography by Skylar Hoffman, a college student with ties to a world beyond. Growing up, he realized he was a little different; he saw, heard, and felt things that others did not. In this audiobook, Skylar recounts his run-ins with the paranormal, from reporting an apparition to his elementary school principal, to how he was changed by a near death experience, to a chance encounter with a man who would become a catalyst for the author's own spiritual awakening.

Now a college senior, Skylar is being pushed towards normalcy but is unwilling to give up on following his bliss. The spirits say that he will drop out of school to follow his dreams. Only time will tell, and the clock is ticking!

This true story is one that is sure to entertain, enlighten, and frighten. We are all here for a reason, and Skylar wants to tell you his.

It just wasn't the book for me

This just wasn’t the book for me. On the one hand, I can appreciate that the author is on a journey. On the other hand, his journey doesn’t particularly interest me.

If you are just starting to explore spirituality and want to hear from someone else on how their journey started, then this might be of interest to you. Hoffman gives candid accounts of his early experiences with the paranormal. He also includes events and people that have helped him along this journey.

Sounds like he was quite the young rebel with his tagging and TPing. Those events gave me a laugh because I think it’s something most teens can connect with. I also didn’t mind that he threw in a few cuss words as I cuss as well and it made the author more human and not so out there.

The various accounts of paranormal events didn’t really resonate with me. I’m a firm skeptic but also do my best to respect other’s believes in the paranormal. Most of them I felt could be just regular, explainable things.

The author talks often about dropping out of college because he is destined for bigger things. Perhaps Hoffman is just looking for a solid excuse to drop out. While positive thinking can’t hurt, I also know you have to put in the real life work. I feel this is lacking in Hoffman’s world view. So much of this book didn’t click with me. 3/5 stars.

I received a free copy of this book.

The Narration: Alex Wakeland needs to polish his technical recording skills. His voice for Hoffman was OK but the recording issues with this book made it a chore to get through. Wakeland did do a few voices for the ladies but pretty much he had 1 voice for all the men and 1 voice for all the ladies. This wasn’t a big deal as everything is told through Hoffman’s voice. the recording itself often sounded rough. Sometimes it sounded like we were in a cavern, sometimes near some highway, sometimes with a slight echo. Also, there’s one repeated chapter. 2.5/5 stars.
