The story of the lame man and his four friends, as told in Marks gospel, tells of his spiritual and physical healing. While these are central to the story, there's something else we can learn, and it comes from the four friends who grabbed a corner and carried their lame friend to Jesus.
We need each other.
It's like the Redwood trees. They don't grow strong by themselves. Each trees root system entangles with surrounding Redwood tree roots and relies on each other to weather storms.
In I Need You, You Need Me, Randy Diller Jr examines how we need to do the same—to entangle our lives to survive. It's community. Living in a community means we grab a corner of someone else's mat and help carry them to Jesus to encourage, hold accountable, partner with, and fellowship together. After all, it was God's plan all along.
