Acerca de esta escucha

Widespread violence. An impending epidemic. A love discovered, and then lost.

Alex came of age under the shroud of a looming threat of national and personal catastrophe. Now, in a time when chaos and depravity reign, Alex will stop at nothing to make right what has gone so wrong.

Into Jackson: Everything in Between is an edgy, apocalyptic tale of love, hate, and a relentless journey toward redemption. Contains some violence, mild profanity, and suggestive themes appropriate for mature listeners.

Audiobook is original version, not Trilogy Edition.

WOW!!

Any additional comments?

I love apocalypse books and this one was no different. The books with events that could actually happen are my favorite, such as this one with the normal super-flu. The narrator did a great job.

A twist on the typical apocalyptic virus

I enjoyed Into Jackson from its start. The story was well-told, the plot lines sound, and the catalyst to the apocalyptic event was a unique spin on the typical viral epidemic. Readers are swung back and forth along two timelines in Alex's life. While the ending is satisfactorily complete, the epilogue did seem to leave room for a future follow up, and I, frankly, would like to see one! Narrator, Samuel Rhett Price, gave a great performance. He brought depth to each of the characters, particularly by enhancing their emotional states. (I increased narration speed to 1.05%.) Overall I think it was fantastic, especially since the scenario presented by the author is totally feasible and frighteningly plausible in real life.

I received a promotional copy of this audiobook for free in exchange for an unbiased review. Many thanks to the narrator for this opportunity!

Different take on the Apocalypse...

I went into this story wanting to really enjoy it. First off I am from the Midwest I understand the Southern Accent well. I do not know if the narrator was trying to read in one or over doing one but that was the first thing that put me off about the audiobook. I know the setting is in Jackson MS. I get it but his over done slow slow pace forced me to adjust the reading speed to 1.25x for the whole audiobook.

The story was the normal super-flu people become infected Government seals each city and state into separate regions and infected overrun city's are sealed off and cut off. The words zombies apocalypse never really used. Not really anything like a zombie story which was fine. My problem was one chapter was in present day next chapter was flashback to start of the story. That's how the whole audiobook went leaping back and forth for the whole thing.

The characters were interesting but details were just given short throw away explanations like Alex and his Fathers work for the company towards the end of the book. This is something that could have really been a great arc for the story but the needed better direction from an editor. Just my opinion for what its worth.

Into Jackson

This sounded like a book I would like. Some of it I did.I found the narrator,Rhett Samuel Price dry to boring. He was vary easy to fall asleep listening to.The story switched between the past and present and at some point I didn't care about the past story at all.The 'present' story had a lot of violence, horror and then there is a buddy story.IDk.A cut in length and a new narrator may have helped.I was provided this book free by the author, narrator or publisher.

Story jumped around a bit much

I really enjoyed this book. It's fast paced and pulled me right in. The characters are awesome. This had me on edge the whole time. I was not however a fan of all the jumping back and forth in the story. I felt it broke up the whole pace of the book.

Loved the narration. Great performance.

The journey would have been better if we knew why

The story mechanic of switching back and forth between past and present is a tried and true one, and I appreciate the author attempting to use this tool to provide an entertaining and suspenseful listen. But the choice the author made *where* to start the book and then continue forward is confusing at best. We are dropped into the start of what appears to be a major quest for the main character, Alex. But *why* Alex is on this quest we only learn in tiny bits and pieces that extend the length of the book. In fact, the exact reason why isn't revealed until 90% into the book.

This leaves the listener wondering the entire length of the book why they are listening. Yes, Alex needs to get into Jackson. But why? Until we know, all the trials and tribulations Alex goes through to get there are less important to why he is going and therefore not as appreciated. When it was finally revealed I mentally let out a relieved sigh, but the book was almost over by then. In my opinion, knowing why Alex needed to get there from the outset would have greatly elevated the stress and thrill of the journey for the listener.

I also didn't get a huge "end-of-the world" vibe anywhere in this book. Apparently the night was filled with zombies, but never was I instilled with a sense of dread or foreboding about them. They were a paper backdrop in the story, a means to provide characters in the book with drugs, and that's it.

Rhett Samual Price has a wonderful deep, resonant baritone - perfect for audio books. I did have some minor nitpicks with this performance though (sorry Rhett!). He needs to figure out a better voice for children and most of the women in his story and stay away from the screeching high falsettos he currently uses. They made me physically cringe at times and are blemishes in an otherwise spectacular performance. Also, Craig, the son of the main baddie, has a weird, changing accent: is it Irish? Brooklyn? South African? It seemed to change and was different at the end of the book compared to the beginning. And where did he get his accent from if his father didn't have one at all?

This audio book was gifted to me by the narrator in exchange for a unbiased review.
