The Malcontents are back in action!

Into the Wild, the new novel by acclaimed author Larry Correia, picks up the story begun in Correia's previous entry in the series, Into the Storm.

Now under the leadership of the reluctant Lieutenant Kelvan Cleasby, the Sixth Platoon of Storm Knights has been ordered to accompany an archeological expedition from the Royal Cygnaran University deep into the Wyrmwall Mountains to investigate an ancient site of potentially great historical value. But what seems a simple enough assignment will rapidly turn into a test of the platoon's survival skills - an abandoned fort, the lone survivor of a horrifying attack, and a ferociously territorial tribe may be more than even the Malcontents can handle.

Why you should write a review

When Into the Wild first came out I gave it a 3 out of 5 in performance because a third of the way through the book Ray Porter's voice work badly slipped and he lost all character accents. This was a real shock to me because he had done a excellent job wit the first Malcontents book. Overall the production felt rushed to me.

Fast forward to this week, where I get a message from Audible saying that they read my review and others like it and re-recorded the book to fix the problem, and invited me to re-review the new audio-book.

This is that review.

And the review all positive Mr. Porter's voice performance in "Into the Wild" is as good as it was in his first book and made it equally enjoyable.

I have no hesitating giving the performance 5 out of 5 for this book now.

Larry's style is perfect for Warmachine

Another excellent war story in the Warmachine universe! Part 2 of the Malcontents storyline continues to expand on the character building and adds 'flavor' and context to a very detailed setting.

simply brilliant

another fantastic novel by Larry Correa. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time waiting as to what is going to happen next. if I had nails to bite that were left, well they'd be finished off. very well educated and plenty of humor in just the right spots

so very good

I've thought both books have been fantastic. of course Ray Porter did excellent. the bad is it appears to be the end. they work well enough on there own, but it definitely leaves you wanting more.

An Exellent Expedition!

First off, I don't think the story is as strong as Into the Storm. The stakes are lower, the plot is more subdued, and the action and risks are less intense.

But where the plot lagged the character writing and narrative tension soared! The book excels when personalities are clashing, and the quiet moments were made great by the charm, heart, and wit these characters have. I think the book would have benefited from explaining the big antagonist's motives more, but the narration and pacing were skillful enough to let me enjoy this jab at fantasy-horror.

This was great, and I hope we get more adventures of the Malcontents on the battlefield!

Wonderful story

This one is much better than the first book. I love the tempo and how much more sense the story makes.

Much better than the 1st book.

Into the Wild picks up a little while after Into the Storm. All the necessary info about the Storm Knights of The 6th (Madigan's Malcontents) has been covered in the first book and it's laid the ground work to launch into further stories outside of a classic battle field scenario. The second book starts out strong and stays that way, avoiding the pitfalls of the first and remains focused throughout.

A select few of The 6th are assigned guard duty for a University's staff going on an archeological dig. They travel to the remote locale on a wooded mountainside, where the locals resent the Cygnarans intrusion and are unfriendly to the point of violence.

And they turn into monsters.

The 6th has their work cut out for them. Outnumbered, overmatched and cut off from rescue, Cleasby & Co must keep everyone alive, repel attacks and get out of their besieged situation.

The second book featuring The Malcontents is an entertaining military adventure from start to finish. It's well crafted, immersing you into the characters and events. The brilliant use of tactics is enjoyable to see unfold as well as the clever counter measures that keeps them surviving by the skin of their teeth. Made me wish there were more stories in this series.

Ray Porter's narration is excellent.
